Alternative Measures Vol. 2

     Dj Roberto Carlos was born with rhythm in his blood. A native of Puerto Rico, this DJ comes from a close-knit musical family in New Jersey, where they can often be found hosting regular jam sessions in their top of the line in-home studio. 

     But this master of the turntables career didn’t start off spinning. His sentiment? 
“Never trust a DJ who can’t dance”. So at age 11, Roberto began acquiring dance skills from his older brother and his friends, absorbing everything from Bboy-ing to House to the fundamentals of Popping and Locking. By dancing to the music he would eventually fall in love with, Roberto developed his “ear” and keen ability to read a crowd, which sets him apart from most DJs on the scene. 

     But Roberto is more than a metropolitan DJ with smooth moves under his belt. At age 13, he began studying music seriously with his Latin Grammy-nominated father. Roberto learned to listen critically to every genre of music, from Funk and Hip Hop to Latin and Reggae. Besides his father, his inspirations include: Michael Jackson, James Brown, DJ A-Track, DJ Q-Bert, Louie Vega and Ruben Toro. 

     Roberto saved his money and bought his first set of equipment at age 15. When most kids were fooling around with their friends after school, he began collecting music and building his repertoire. Shortly after, he began Dj-ing at local parties, and before he knew it, he was performing professionally for several entertainment companies and clubs.

     Today, he prides himself on his knowledge of many different genres. Roberto’s passion for his craft is apparent every second he’s behind the booth. He is constantly in the studio, practicing and researching the hottest new tracks. His background in dance, strong musical foundation, and edgy flair makes him the perfect combination of swagger, soul, and pure talent.
