The movement towards "the outer world"as an affirmation of the "inner world".

Over the past decade I've become an accidental and devoted student of late 20th century Austrian pop music. Is it odd? Yes.

This mix may be the beginning of a series as this place and era continues to deliver sweet (and sour) fascination to the ear, mind, and heart. For now & here, this introduction is comprised of songs between 1982 and 1987. Broadly speaking this is not seemly stuff. These are mostly overplayed hands and are often attended to by an unwieldy force of personality that risks undoing the ambition the work implies. Nonetheless, by some miraculous internal set of balancing mechanisms I find each track arrives effectively, and happily I lend my ear back again and again. Vis a vis the theme, I am not especially interested in the nation as a container of culture, but I am quite interested in the land, place, and language contributing to such a thing. Naturally excited to share more high-pressure thoughts on these matters, but, I'll leave that for another time. Best, Frank
