Hard Wired, Born Blind

2016 ended on nearly as sour a note as 1968, the winter humans first orbited the moon, and made it back to Earth. This, then, is a wish.

This song features Caitlin Ayer singing the traditional folk hymn "Wayfaring Stranger." We strove to avoid using any copyrighted lyrics in their entirety, though this song--nearly 200 years old--has been claimed so many times by so many labels and artists it is difficult to see how any infringement could be proven.

NASA is far more generous. The Apollo 8 recordings are available on line and are in the public domain:

This song is a bit of serendipity that occurred during a break from the tedious work of extracting sound samples to load into the Roland V-Synth. Three one-minute samples from our second Golden Gate Bridge assay were used to generate the MIDI tracks, which were applied as loops to the studio synths with different voicings. There are two takes of three MIDI voices mixed to stereo. The four resulting tracks were then aligned and bounced to a single stereo track.
