@user-138663860: This was a fun one! Like Jeff said in his notes, he tried to mix it as though it were a live performance. Fortunately the King's verse is super flexible and fit beautifully over our old-time bounce. Biscuits is the gift that keeps on giving.

I uploaded Bitter before but in my opinion this Bitter is better.
I wrote and played it on the 1st January 2023.

I have loved The Happy Somethings since I first heard them when in Azerbaijan about 6 years ago.  We share the philosophy that if we try harder it sounds worse!  I am pleased and honoured that they spontaneously decided to colloborate and be my "ramshackle"  backing band on this song!  a bit like with Buddy Holly's apartment tapes, only I think Buddy's were better before...and Buddy was never bitter.

I was pretty excited when Dan said he had a rap to chomp on, and it turned out to be a pretty addicting venture. Couch King Presents provided a fantastic vocal track, and you should check out some of his other mixes and collaborations with Buttermilk Biscuits!

While we were mixing this, it sort of veered into a house style thing, and I tried to definitely cut it as a DJ would at a live event, only through the lens of old-time. Hence the big booming bass, but it's washtub. Even the electric lead line is a tweaked Mandolin. Dan really provided a ton of authentic voices in this one. I managed to at least stick my Gourd in there. I like to think Old-time and House make Old-House. it's a certain kind of wacky, but we think you will like it.

A response to Bob Dylan's poem 'Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie' 
I called it "Last Thoughts" as a tribute, but in truth they certainly won't be. In fact my silly naive highschooler butt didn't even put together that he wrote "Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie" when Woody was in the hospital. You'd think the title would have clued me in but either way hope there'll never be any last anythings. This song is kind of about reaching in the dark, finding strength in the words of strangers and old friends too, lighting the path a little further down the road.
