This is a great tribute. Separately - Wondering if you ever ran into Bards of a Feather in Nasvhille? Their only album was 1991. Barry Gilmore was very much a music mentor my freshman year in college and I believe was active in Nasvhille Celtic and folk circles through the 1990s. Just Googled and unfortunately he too passed away in 2019. Crazy.

Here We Go

I haven't kept much of what I recorded as a studio engineer in Nashville back in the 1990s, but one set that stands out is from a day in 1996 when my friend Bill Verdier came to the studio and, with guitar accompaniment from Peter O'Hanlan, laid down two excellent fiddle tracks for a project he was working on. I got chills hearing this as it was being played, and I still get chills 26 years later.

I learned today of Bill's passing, and I just wanted to offer up these two samples of his excellent musicianship. I'm glad I got to hear him. He will be missed.

This suite follows the shape of a mind moving from first light into calm and then into renewed motion. The opening movement leans into warmth and memory, where familiar turns in the harmony meet a quiet blues thread carried by the lower voices. The center settles into a gentler world, built on slow patterns and soft colors that ease the breath and steady the thoughts. The final movement lifts everything forward again, drawing on dance rhythms and shared lines to carry the players toward a bright, collective finish. Written for friends gathering to play, it’s music about awakening, resting, and rising together.
