Our signature funk-to-harmolodic opener, at the long-gone and very tiny BeatHaus space in South Philly, 1993. One of the last gigs by this version of the band! The stage was so small that Rich used his floor tom as his bass drum, with great success. Band and audience got to stretch it out and loosen up with this one.

Let's Be Frank About Skank

So many of our most creative moments and seeds for subsequent IMU compositions were our free jam sessions. Rescued here from the deep vaults: Rich, Peter, and Pierre Vendette (tenor sax) at Pierre and Roea's in Mantua, West Philly, January 24, 1988, improvising for almost 45 minutes of energy and creativity in the classic West Philly style. IMU cognoscenti will recognize the beginnings of several later pieces in this session.

In-Between Melody - IMU Rock Jam

Recorded live at Dave and Nam's on 11-12-2016 in West Philadelphia, PA, USA. This time, IMU performed as a trio. Rich's song combines his Bar Mitzvah haftorah melody with a variation on the bass line from Coltrane's "A Love Supreme."

Recorded 1991 at the Beathaus, a tiny club in South Philadelphia with a notably friendly and intimate atmosphere. Drum set without a bass drum and small amps were used to fit on the small stage.

Underground Railroad

Founded by Peter Wilf (guitar) and Rich Moskowitz (drums)in West Philadelphia, PA USA and including Steve Bergmann (basses) and Elliott Levin (saxes and flute). The quartet composed about 30 original pieces and played the Knitting Factory, Painted Bride Art Center, Bacchanal, Khyber Pass, Tops, 40th St. Underground, Silk City, The Barbary, Nexus Art Gallery, Beathaus and other venues.
