MMZ - Sudbeats 17 (Willow Island)

My annual "This Was" series features my favorite tracks of the year from my own labels (Sound Avenue, 3rd Avenue, Future Avenue & Crossfade Sounds). 2023 was an amazing year filled with tons of great music. Ewan is a DJ and producer with more than thousand tracks released on over 100 labels worldwide. One of the leading progressive house and progressive techno artist. He has performed alongside dozens of world-class djs. His music has been supported by such veterans of music industry as Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Cid Inc, Dave Seaman, Nick Muir, Max Graham, Jody Wisternoff, Above & Beyond, Matt Darey, Darin Epsilon, Paul Van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and many others. Recently, one of his tracks featured on the compilation album Nick Warren presents: The Soundgarden, released by Balance Music.

Depth Perception Sessions #92 - Ewan Rill

Christina Gavrilova, aka Forty Cats, has made a significant impact on the global progressive house scene. She has been making music for 13 years, and DJing for 15. Christina’s first milestone came with the "Highway" debut EP on Lane 8's This Never Happened label in 2019. Two years later, Forty Cats made a dramatic shift in her sound direction. She has since released on progressive house labels like Sudbeat, Mango Alley, Soundgarden, and PlattenBank ,while gaining support from industry legends such as Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, D-Nox, Lane 8, Dowden, and Above & Beyond. For April 2024, Forty Cats will start her own label – PURRFECTION – and has already collaborated with artists such as KYOTTO, Ricky Ryan, EANP and others. 

Forty Cats tours globally, and has performed in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Armenia, and Argentina. Christina continues to captivate her audience with new releases, compilations, and DJ sets, maintaining a strong presence in the progressive house and techno scene.

You know that feeling where a track just feels right. This happens when your heart, your soul, and your mind are in sync. Your heart responds to tempo, your brain responds to frequency, and your soul responds to melody. You are now in sync and your body wants to get up and move.

Our bodies have an autonomic mechanism that syncs with strong, external rhythms, pulses, or beats.  This phenomenon is known as entrainment. We entrain to rhythms around us all the time, although we are usually unaware of it.

The relationship between the external rhythms and our inner rhythms or pulses is inseparable. In fact our internal rhythms will speed up or slow down to match a stronger external rhythm.

Less energy is used when 2 objects are entrained. In other words, we consume less energy when we are in step with surrounding energy, and we waste energy when we are not in sync with the greater, surrounding energy.

Think back to your most unforgettable club nights or parties. Remember the energy you felt when you moved as one with like- minded people who are also in sync. That is the power of electronic music.

This is the reason why I am a DJ. It is my hope you find moments of entrainment with these mixes.
