A rolling soul pop anthem for any who've endured a level of struggle.
I wrote this song out of frustration of my own financial struggles - I'm fully aware that many others are much worse off. It was just a song in the moment.

Hard Life

This is track one from my 2018 EP THIRST and the final song I actually completed recording and mixing for it.  Its a short upbeat catchy pop track driven mostly by guitars with electro synth additions.  I sat on the chorus hook for a while, it wasn't until I came up with the verse melody and progression where I began to piece some complete lyrics towards it to help it take shape.

Crumble

Musically Influenced directly from 90's Alternative Power Pop bands such as Supergrass(UK), Sloan (CA) & You Am I (AU)

FIERCE is a powerful sounding track with an exciting chord progression from the get go, instantly hooking the listener in to the experience.

While already a pleasing melody, FIERCE is dressed up tastefully with simple but effective instrumentation and vocal harmonies.

FIERCE was written, performed and produced entirely by Scotty MacFarlane at home with a very basic budget recording set up that audiophile producers might scoff at. (It's the result that counts, not the glamour of the gear crafting it!)

Thanks to cancelled party plans and an evening of extra time, initial tracking of FIERCE began on New Years Eve 2019, finishing a few days later.  

Lyrically this track is very personal, beginning with themes of fighting & typical arguments in a long term relationship, while finishing with profound confidence that this bickering is only working towards making the bond much stronger in the long term.

A fun take on the vintage cartoon production companies name, but in the form of a female character who is never phased by any trouble in life.

This is a well crafted remix of Fierce produced by Brisbane based Electronic artist Simon Irvine.

Fierce - but it's only vocals and acoustic guitar.  A nice showcase of the harmonies throughout.

Coming from humble beginnings, anyone could tell you music was in Scotty MacFarlane’s DNA. 
 
Born in New Zealand but raised in Brisbane, Australia from a young age - Scotty MacFarlane began his creative journey as a young teen. Desperate to make sound at all cost, he began on cheap microphones and whatever free programs he could get his hands on. It wasn’t always glamorous. His studio sessions involving guitars, keyboard and vocals could be interrupted at any moment. This period of hard work and trial and error yielded in five full length albums. No easy feat, let alone for an established musician. 
 
It paid off. Now at the age of 30 with an established career of international stage performances under his belt in various tribute shows - Scotty has reconnected with his roots to continue with a much more driven and advanced journey of home music production featuring soulful vocals, interesting lyrics and simple yet lush arrangements. He is inspired by a wide influence of anything from The Beatles all the way to Arctic Monkeys. 
 
Slowly but surely Scotty has managed to develop his own sound that is both modern and filled with echoes of decades gone by.
