This week, we learned about classes.  I created MasterBeat and Scale classes to define the common beat and scale.  Then, I reworked the composition code (bass, whistle, piano) to use those (calling static methods), instead of private data, so that I could change the mode and beat on the fly, and have all the performers follow.  I also bundled up the code for the whistle sound into a reusable instrument class.

And, because we were required to use one of the classes presented in lecture, I incorporated Ajay's SmartMandolin for a little trill in the intro and outro.

After all that refactoring, switching the mode mode from Bb Aoelian to C Ionian was as simple as a single line of code, and changing the beat was a single line.  I took advantage of this by adjusting the swing amount from hard swing at the start (3.0 ratio) to straight time (1.0) at the end.  This creates the illusion of an increasing tempo, even though that is fixed at 96 bpm throughout.

Finally, in reworking the melodies to use the common (octave+degree)-to-midi-value function, I noticed that I had a couple of bugs in last week's code, which resulted in a different melody and chords playing than I thought I'd programmed.  I liked the "mistake" in the bassline, so I adjusted the notes for it to play, but the piano chords were really better the way they were supposed to be, so kept that change.

This is the final assignment for the course "Programming for musicians and digital artists", run by Calarts and Coursera.  This one uses OOP patterns and multi-threading to manipulate audio samples to produce an ambient sound architecture.
