German-born but Austria-based Jorkes is on a great run of form right now. The Freeride Millenium label head is an icon of the queer scene whose music always highlights the importance of the dance floor as a place of liberation. She is a resident at Stuttgart's Romantica, conceived the brilliant IMPACT compilation series on Freeride Millenium and always cooks up fresh and emotive club tracks that fuse house, disco and techno.

This new remix is part of an EP by Super Drama that also features remixes by Tomas Jef and Grace Sands. Jorkes's remix is a standout, though, with taught, pinging kick drums making for a groove full of swing. Coarse hi hats up top and sinewy synths make for a steely but steamy vibe with wordless vocal coos and fizzing pads all intensifying as the track unfolds. It's a humid and atmospheric track that eventually brings rays of hope and light thanks to some bright chords later on.

Jorkes shows off another superb side to her sound with this fresh remix.

If there is something we learned from Juan Soto’s forthcoming release on Astrolead Recordings, the proficient retro-infused imprint curated by master Ilya Santana (SXDNS072), is that planets – and galaxies – can malfunction. The Mexican virtuoso pitches his unique and striking theory by presenting his arguments through magnificent synth layers and vocoder-soaked chants, something rather different from his more recent works, either originals or collaborations, published on vital labels such as Boite Music, Espacio Cielo, Spa In Disco, and Astrolead itself, which ratifies Juan’s plural capabilities as a producer.

For his well-constructed and exquisite “Malfunctioning Planet”, he summoned another respected authority on the matter: Manuel Costela contributed with a heavier but equally cosmic interpretation of the hypothesis. The Madrid-based artist put aside his characteristic Disco & House sonority and opened the vault of his darker influences this time to bring to life a fatter and robust take.

In your opinion, what is the label with the coolest name out there? In ours, it’s When Disco Goes Wrong, the growing Swedish platform managed by local legends Janne “Högt I Tak” Berglund (SXDNS179) and Marten “Mindbender” Attling. In their vision, Disco has actually not gone wrong or died, but evolved, turned into a plethora of genres and sub/micro-genres that have kept the boogie alive and kicking, and sometimes wrapped with heavy doses of acid – their favourite shape of what Disco has become. And if you are familiar with their work, you know how fond the lads are of acid. Take as an example the title of Högt I Tak’s forthcoming EP: “Acid Rave”. Believe it or not, this is the very first EP on his own label. His previous appearances were on compilations or other artists’ releases as a remixer.

For the occasion, Janne spared no efforts and brought the 90s back with four intense originals that showcase his capabilities and creativity as a producer. “Jittery Acid”, premiered here, is a peak time hellish beast featuring Techno and early Rave elements topped with indecent amounts of… yes, you know the answer. It is definitely one of the best tracks of the year so far. Caveat emptor: The trip is intense, handle with care.

Castelli is the musical moniker of Milan’s Stefano Castelli. His debut album, Anni Venti, combines all the synth history of his native Italy with soulful song writing. Produced by Luca Urbani, the record draws on inspiration from the analogue sounds of pop and wave whilst commenting on our contemporary condition. Rumbling basslines and clean beats are elevated by the glorious chorus lines of the opening “Festa.” The tracks on offer are short and bursting with energy, like the lilting “Cosmonauti” or the addictively upbeat duet of “Wave Goodbye.” A retrospective future dawns in the vocoder and rhythmic pulses of “Cani,” electro echoes of a man machine world. Premiering releases of established labels is definitely a great responsibility. A challenge that, of course, we feel an enormous pleasure in accomplishing. We have a confession, though: Every time we are requested to review a track of the very first release of a new imprint, we feel something else, a different kind of bond as if we were going to be part of the history of the new project forever. With the kick-off of Spazio Label, things would not be different: We feel truly honoured for having the privilege of reviewing a piece of the Russian platform’s debut release. And what a debut!

Featuring 12-made-with-love cuts, soon available in K-7 and digital formats, the volume one of the VA “Spazio Invasore” showcases the rich sonority of the project by bringing together friends & resident DJs and their respective contributions: Nu Disco, New Beat, Indie Dance, Proto House, Neo Italo, and Modern Disco were brought the party.

The theme we were solicited to present, Bogdan Ra’s “Royal Flush”, is a game-winner. Beautiful arpeggios, melodic guitar riffs, dreamy pads, frolic percussive elements, and a dynamic bassline set the mood of the funkiest theme of the compilation.

Malka Tuti in collaboration with the italian imprint Roccodisco, and label bosses Ed Rodion and Hugo Sanchez bring forth "Perfidia". Ed and Hugo (aka Alien Alien) are no strangers to pitched down sexy dancefloor tunes. With previous releases on Slow Motion records they've made a name for themselves as sexy bastards. With Perfidia they present the vocalist Igino, a friend from home, Rome. Together they've boiled a slow burning, constantly evolving song for the late late hours. Strong Kick, deep low frequencies and those vocals lay the foundations for a true K-Pop hit. On the remix for the A-side Malka Tuti present a collaboration of two disco legends Ray Mang and Severino Panzetta (oh Horse Meat Disco), that add a Mediterranean flavor to the original tune, easing things up... On the b-side we have another slow burner with "Bella l'Estate", joined by a top remix by Tel Avivian prodigy Naduve to conclude your go to "hit of the summer package".
