Om or Aum (also Auṃ, written in Devanāgari as ॐ and as ओम्, in Sanskrit known as praṇava प्रणव [lit. "to sound out loudly"], Omkara, or Auṃkāra (also as Aumkāra) ओंकार (lit. "Auṃ form/syllable"), is a sacred/mystical syllable in the Dharmic or Indian religions, i.e. Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism.

Aum is pronounced as a long or over-long nasalized close-mid back rounded vowel, [õːː]), though there are other enunciations adhered to in received traditions. It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred incantation to be intoned at the beginning and end of a reading of the Vedas or prior to any prayer or mantra. The Māndukya Upanishad is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable. The syllable consists of three phonemes, a Vaishvanara, u Hiranyagarbha and m Iswara, which symbolize the beginning, duration, and dissolution of the universe and the associated gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, respectively.

The Sanskrit name for the syllable is praṇava, from a root nu "to shout, sound", verbal pra-nu- being attested as "to make a humming or droning sound" in the Brahmanas, and taking the specific meaning of "to utter the syllable aum" in the Chāndogya Upanishad and the Shrauta Sutras. More rarely used terms are akṣara (lit. symbol, character) or ekākṣara (lit. one symbol, character), and in later times omkāra becomes prevalent.

Phonemically, the syllable is /aum/, which is regularly monophthongized to [õː] in Sanskrit phonology. It is sometimes also written with pluti, as o3m (ओ३म्), notably by Arya Samaj. When occurring within a Sanskrit utterance, the syllable is subject to the normal rules of sandhi in Sanskrit grammar, however with the additional peculiarity that after preceding a or ā, the au of aum does not form vriddhi (au) but guna (o) per Pāṇini 6.1.95 (i.e. 'om').

The aum symbol  is a ligature of Devanagari ओ+ँ (oṃ, encoded in Unicode at U+0950 ॐ, the Tibetan script variant ༀ at U+0F00, and the Chinese version 唵 at U+5535 or 吽 at U+543D).

The syllable aum is first described as all-encompassing mystical entity in the Upanishads. Today, in all Hindu art and all over India and Nepal, 'aum' can be seen virtually everywhere, a common sign for Hinduism and its philosophy and theology. Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound "AUM".[3] Before creation began it was "Shunyākāsha", the emptiness or the void. Shunyākāsha, meaning literally "no sky", is more than nothingness, because everything then existed in a latent state of potentiality. The vibration of "AUM" symbolizes the manifestation of God in form ("sāguna brahman"). "AUM" is the reflection of the absolute reality, it is said to be "Adi Anadi", without beginning or the end and embracing all that exists.[3] The mantra "AUM" is the name of God, the vibration of the Supreme. When taken letter by letter, A-U-M represents the divine energy (Shakti) united in its three elementary aspects: Bhrahma Shakti (creation), Vishnu Shakti (preservation) and Shiva Shakti (liberation, and/or destruction).[3]

The syllable is mentioned in all the Upanishads, specially elaborated upon in the Taittiriya, Chāndogya and Māndukya Upanishad set forth as the object of profound religious meditation, the highest spiritual efficacy being attributed not only to the whole word but also to the three sounds a (a-kāra), u (u-kāra), m (ma-kāra), of which it consists. A-kara means form or shape like earth, trees, or any other object. U-kāra means formless or shapeless like water, air or fire. Ma-kāra means neither shape nor shapeless (but still exists) like the dark energy content of the Universe. When we combine all three syllables we get AUM which is a combination of A-kāra, U-kāra, and Ma-kāra.[4]

The Katha Upanishad has:

"The goal, which all Vedas declare, which all austerities aim at, and which humans desire when they live a life of conscience, I will tell you briefly it is aum"
"The one syllable [evākṣara, viz. aum] is indeed Brahman. This one syllable is the highest. Whosoever knows this one syllable obtains all that he desires.
"This is the best support; this is the highest support. Whosoever knows this support is adored in the world of Brahma." (1.2.15-17)[5]
The Chāndogya Upanishad (1.1.1-1) states:

om ity-etad akṣaram udgītham upāsīta / aum iti hy udgāyati / tasyopavyākhyānam
"The udgi:tā ["the chanting", that is, the syllable om] is the best of all essences, the highest, deserving the highest place, the eighth."
The Bhagavad Gi:tā (8.13) states that:

Uttering the monosyllable Aum, the eternal world of Brahman, One who departs leaving the body (at death), he attains the Supereme Goal (i.e., he reaches God).
In Bhagavad Gi:tā (9.17): Lord Krishna says to Arjuna - "I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable Oḿ. I am also the Ṛig, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas."

The Bhagvad Gi:tā (17.23) has:

om tatsatiti nirdesho brahmanstrividhah samratah
"OM, tat and sat has been declared as the triple appellation of Brahma, who is Truth, Consciousness and Bliss."
In the following sūtra it emphasizes, "The repetition of Om should be made with an understanding of its meaning".[6]

In the book Om Chanting and Meditation Amit Ray states:

Om is not just a sound or vibration. It is not just a symbol. It is the entire cosmos, whatever we can see, touch, hear and feel. Moreover, it is all that is within our perception and all that is beyond our perception. It is the core of our very existence. If you think of Om only as a sound, a technique or a symbol of the Divine, you will miss it altogether. ..... Om is the mysterious cosmic energy that is the substratum of all the things and all the beings of the entire universe. It is an eternal song of the Divine. It is continuously resounding in silence on the background of everything that exists. [7]

Ganesha's trunk symbolises the fact that the wise person has both immense strength and fine discrimination. His large ears symbolise his great listening power which he embraces his followers to aim for.

Sa Ta Na Ma Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung – This chant consists of two mantras. The first mantra, “Sa Ta Na Ma,” consists of the Sanskrit sounds Sa, Ta, Na, and Ma. These sounds are translated, respectively, as (1) Infinity, representing the totality of the Cosmos, (2) Life (birth of form from the Infinite, (3) death or transformation, and (4) rebirth.  The second mantra, “Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hum(ng)” is a powerful mantra that is chanted for healing.  “Ra” is the sun, “Ma” is the moon, “Da” is the earth, and “Sa” is air or the impersonal infinity.  Say is the totality of experience, “So” is the personal sense of identity, and “Hum(ng)” is the infinte.  The first part of the mantra (“Ra Ma Da Sa”) expands toward heaven.  Then, by repeating the sound “Sa” as a turning point, the second part (“Sa Say So Hum(ng)”) causes the spirit to descend from above into matter in order to animate and vitalize it with life and healing. In other words, the second part of the mantra brings the healing qualities of the world back down to Earth. Chanting or listening to this mantra can be quite uplifting – it is timeless and can re-energize your life.

It is with deep joy and blessings that I present to you the title track of my new album ‘Honour All Creation’. This song is one of the most powerful creative expressions as a musician, evoking a universal credo for us all as an anthem for a new world just now being birthed. Happy Gemini New Moon!

My new album will be OFFICIALLY released on June 20th, the Summer Solstice 🌟I cannot think of a better date to share this beauty with the world.

HONOUR ALL CREATION has been an album I've been dreaming of making for many years now. The album title was inspired by an Ayahausca journey I experienced in Yelapa, Mexico where I was on retreat with Dr. Gabor Mate. Mother Aya initiated me as a Rainbow Warrior and after a serious of stunning initiations, I was shown the throne that humanity sits upon in the cosmic order. It was a beautiful and immense throne carved from wood and engraved above it was the credo 'Honour All Creation'. 

The album itself has been created during this time of sacred pause, pandemic and quarantine as I've found myself lingering in the beautiful oceanic, jungle wilds of Costa Rica and living with some wonderful artists. One of them, the brilliant Steffen Ki, has been the devoted producer helping me bring these many songs and visionary sounds to life. 

I see the album as a collection of anthems for creating a new world as we are so called during this time of pause; to course correct and, above all, understand how we can heal our horrendous separation from Mother Earth, who is regenerating and healing magnificently at this time when human activity has been largely halted.
Mother Earth is fittingly an immense inspiration for the album and many songs are devoted to Her, from the opening invocation, 'Sophia's Smile', to the first single 'Oh My Goddess' and my deep ode to Her that I wrote long ago 'GAIA'. The album also features some of my continued work as a spoken word artist spoken here over celestial soundscapes co-created between Steffen and I. I am also happy to share that the album features my song ‘Woman (Sage of Surrender)’ an ode to all women that has been around for some time and many have asked for a recording of it. The album also features some beautiful musical guests such as the angelic cello playing of Lucas Tensen, the guitar wizardry of Patrick O’Reilly, the brilliant musicianship and productions skills of Jeremy Legault  and the seraphic voice and spirit of Maywa from Aluna Ritual Music. On June 20th I will be LIVE STREAMING a virtual listening party from my wondrous abode at the moment here in Costa Rica at 1:11pm EST followed by a Q & A about the creation and meaning of the album. We are also shooting a music video for ‘Oh My Goddess’ which I hope to release soon enough as well.
