Title track BACK TO THE BEAST is a conga-click slab of acid argument, a jacked-up My Life in the Bush of Ghosts for late-night early 21st century freaks. Next up, GOING INTO TRANCE offers a guided regression session into the White Hot Room, a hypnotic deep trip behind your eyes. BACK TO THE BEATS is a dank, dubby reimagining of the title track that starts as a bonus beat and ends as a dark drum rebuttal from deep within the BEAST. Finally, best boys KHIDJA (Hivern Discs, Malka Tuki, Love on the Rocks, [Emotional] Especial) reincarnate the title track as a transcendental piece of wet techno—a 9+ minute aquarian journey to the center of The Orb.

For almost ten years, Producer and DJ James Weissinger (Zillas on Acid) has collaborated with Philadelphia-based video artist “Babystar'' (Carolina Leis-Usher) under the name GIRLS CHAT ROOM.

The new GIRLS CHAT ROOM album SLEEP MASK sees the duo log back into the chat with eight new songs exploring a range of important contemporary themes: the perennial perils of the gig economy (“Bubble Tea”), a lack of rest in an increasingly wired world (“Sleep Mask”), the laugh-track sitcom-ification of everyday life (“TV Turkey”), Gen Z and its piddling preoccupations (“Look at My Friends”), facial cleansing routines as spiritual salvation (“We Got Those Faces”), the post-industrial dance mantra imaginary (“Metal Chant”), vanilla-scented New Age skepticism gone awry (“Déjà Vu”), and wet blankets (“Wet Blanket”). Taken together, these songs tear the collective “sleep mask” from our faces, encouraging us to WAKE UP, look around, and then ok maybe go back to sleep amidst the burning parking lot fire of the early 21st century.

For those who have already taken the Girls Chat Room Revolutionary Pledge of Allegiance, SLEEP MASK is a powerful return to form and the logical next step in GCR’s aesthetic evolution. For those just starting to sip the Kool-Aid, the release might just be the beginning of a lifelong journey into the GCR lifestyle.

Born into a world he never made, the Amniotic Druid is equal parts Aleister Crowley and Guy Smiley, conjuring prelapsarian partyjams and recipes for resurrection for all who would listen.  His birth-cries boom out over eldritch lilypads, Madchester musings straight from Stonehenge’s parking lot.

For over ten years, James Weissinger aka Jameszilla has played loud music for dancing people as one half of ZILLAS ON ACID, resident DJs at Philadelphia’s legendary 17+ year party MAKING TIME and the duo responsible for the city’s now-infamous Broadzilla events. In between taking disco naps, designing party flyers, and managing ZoA’s non-existent intern Brad-Zilla, James has not-so-secretly operated 100 Years of Solid Dudes, a semi-conceptual record label bringing Philadelphia’s finest freaks into musical collaboration via his downtown Hackers Hideaway studio. The goal? To create an alternative pop dimension where the good guys won, Devo is bigger than the Beatles, and the long 80s never really ended, offering up such beloved musical mutants as Universo Paralelo, Aufklärung Gang, New Donna, GIRLS CHAT ROOM, and many others. 

But the label’s Research & Development Division has always been the 100 Years of Solid Dudes Mix Series, an ongoing collection of manic sample symphonies that put Disco, Italo, EBM, Balearica, Japanese Pop, and everything else on the chopping block, resulting in increasingly smaller song scraps tossed together. The result: 110 bpm car-crash collages where many a Solid Dudes backing beat has been born.  

For 44,100Hz, then, Jameszilla presents the creatively titled third mix in this series, 100 Years of Solid Dudes Volume 3: 53 minutes of intense queasy-listening, filed, compiled, and carefully re-styled in the true 100YSD tradition. Listen carefully, and you might just detect tomorrow’s Solid Dudes hits emerging from today’s primordial, aural ooze.
