This song is called "36 Candles," and it was the second song that I started with this project. This song is driven by a Suzuki Q Chord that I purchased in the spring. As I was playing around with it, this is the first chord progression I played. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to write the whole song around it. This song also features number station audio which I got from the Conet Project, and the end of the song features a glockenspiel which I purchased right before the pandemic. 

This song is about my battles with depression and anxiety, and how there always seems to be some hope that things will get better one day. This will be a common theme in the whole album.... some day, everything will be alright.

Ode To Chameleons (demo)

Late April 2020, at the anxious height of the quarantine lockdown, I received an unexpended message from my fellow brothers in sound at Outro music store in Istanbul asking if I wanted to make a mix as part of their pandemic sessions.

I had already been listening to the earlier Outro Sessions for a few weeks & found them to be selections of rare/unheralded songs mixed by seasoned selectors across many genres from around the globe.

So, I was both honored to be asked and excited to make my first bedroom mix in a few years. All my recent DJ mixes had been recordings of my live DJ sets.

It took me a couple three weeks to decide the mood for the mix. One of my most indelible memories of the enchanting city that Istanbul is was taking the ferry from the European side to Kadaköy in the heat of late Summer late night in September 2019. I could vividly recall my dizzy joy staring at the inky Bosphorous, the shadows of the old waterside buildings and the rich swath passenger faces from across ages, fortunes and borders packed around me. Also that night, I was on my way to meet the Outro crew for the first time and hear an esteemed vinyl selector visiting from Bologna. 

The eclectic batch of songs on this mix are me speaking of my wonton memories of that nite.

This a mix from both vinyl and compact discs and was recorded in one go. There is a needle skip around the 20 minute mark. I decided to leave it in, an audio wart to startle the streaming generation.
