Multi award winning vocalist Cleveland Watkiss (MBE) is a vocal pioneer boasting an eclectic list of
collaborators and achievements. Cleveland recently received the Boisdale Award: Jazz Artist of the Year
2022 and the 2021 Ivor Novello Innovation Award. Cleveland has worked with diverse artists from around
the world including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, Bob Dylan, Janet Kay, Maxi Priest,
the James Taylor Quartet and Stevie Wonder. Cleveland is professor of Voice Studies at the prestigious
Trinity Laban Music and Dance Conservatoire.
Producer’s Digital and Dike gathered some of the industry’s most seasoned musicians to feature on
“Energy”; celebrated reggae trombonist Henry Tenue, Sovra Dickinson on violins and viola and Nu Jazz
pianist Laurie Milton. Written by Cleveland, Dike and Digital, “Energy” boasts an arrangement of Digital’s

'Flames' and 'Beat Workout' featured on a mix Spirit and I did for my album, Dubzilla. 'Jailhouse' is a paranoid twisted half-time stepper. 'Mask' has dubbed out techy chords, bags of bass and a smooth amen break. 'Common Ground' is me getting into synthesisers. 'Experience' and 'Distance' are musical journeys with heavy basslines. I made 'Forward Thinking' in a dreamy state after a heap of partying, so there's an oddness about it I like.

'Short Memory' and 'Regret' are rowdy two-step rollers. 'Outrage' sounds like a track from 97 with its loud Reese bass and crunchy breaks. (It also sounds like something my pal Outrage would make hence the name) 'Free Roll' shows I'll use a riff lead on any old breakbeat I can find cos it's fun!
