Clips from a project I recently mixed and mastered for Vineyard Records UK recording artist Samuel Lane. These are part of an album of live-in-studio performances, featuring a mix of new material and songs from Sam's critically-acclaimed album "The Fire". 

I really wanted to capture the wide dynamic range and heart of the stripped-down performances, while keeping them believable (as opposed to some "live" recordings which are heavily edited/overdubbed). "The Road" for example goes from a whisper to a roar, and I wanted the mix to drive home that dynamic range and energy.

Want to go on a walk in the snowy woods with me? If you've never heard a binaural recording, I did some experimenting the other day in the snow with my binaural in-ear microphones (Roland CS-10EM). Binaural recordings are unbelievably immersive...they put you right into the scene.

Important tips!!!
1 - *Do not* use speakers. You must use headphones, in a quiet place.
2 - Close your eyes and imagine the scene. 

What sounds like wind in the tree tops is the sound of the snow melting, falling from the trees. Limbs also break under the weight of the snow. Listen for cars and gunshots off in the distance. You'll swear you were there!
