ART CONVERSATION at 1335MABINI is a collaboration with DiscLab, a not-for-profit organization founded by young art researchers and writers. It aims to document the recent history of Philippine contemporary art through critical and multidisciplinary research and writing that situate the public at the center of the process (discussionlab.com)

The program Nodes and Rifts is a forum that germinates with potential nodes of articulation in Jon Cuyson’s Kerel. Teasing out and problematizing some key elements of the exhibition, the program aims to put forward preliminary, temporary, speculative, and even traditional or rhetorical propositions on the notion of participation that pertains to issues on labor, sexuality, and aesthetics as gleaned from Kerel.

Jon Cuyson
Artist

Born and educated in the Philippines, Jon Cuyson has participated in group exhibitions in New York and abroad since 2004. His works employ different techniques and media including texts, photographs, painting, artist books, installations, video and interventions. In March 2006, he was invited to participate in the Skowhegan Artist Residency in Maine. Jon Cuyson received a MFA from Columbia University in 2010 and currently lives between New York City and Manila

Dr. Rolando B. Tolentino
Dean, College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines-Diliman and Faculty Member, UP Film Institute

Rolando Tolentino is author of National/Transnational: Subject Formation and Media in and on the Philippines (2001), and editor of Vaginal Economy: Cinema and Sexuality in the Post-Marcos Post-Brocka Philippines (positions, 2011), and Geopolitics of the Visible: Essays on Philippine Film Cultures (2002). He has taught at the Osaka University and National University of Singapore, has been Distinguished Visitor of the UC-Berkeley and UCLA Southeast Asian Studies Consortium, and was recipient of the Obermann Summer Research Fellowship. He is a member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics Group) and the Congress of Teachers and Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (CONTEND-UP). He holds a Ph.D. in Film, Literature and Culture from the University of Southern California.

Clod Marlan Krister V. Yambao
Assistant Professor, Department of Art Studies, University of the Philippines-Diliman

Clod Yambao’s academic interests include Philippine contemporary art history, critical theory and art theory, Philippine cultural studies, affect and queer studies, globalization studies and performance studies. He completed his MA in Art History at UP Diliman with a research thesis on the contemporary art and the Philippine postcolonial avant- garde. Part of his thesis, entitled Philippine Installation Art from 1970 to 2008 as the Discourse of Philippine Postcolonial Avant-Garde appeared in the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies. Currently, he is working on the critical interlocutions of  Philippine contemporary art, dromology  and modernity studies.
