William Shakespeare's famous comedy Twelfth Night adapted by Robert L. Williams transports the audience to 1938 Pikeville, Kentucky in this rousing, heartbreaking comedy with music: An Appalachian Twelfth Night.

In 1938, actors from the New York chapter of the WPA’s Federal Theatre Project travel to Pikeville, Kentucky to present William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” Using the small town’s Union Hall and fleshing out the cast with local performers, this company of actors re-imagined Shakespeare’s timeless comedy into a transformative play set in an isolated coal-mining town.

With music by the Appalachian band Rev. Karl and the Pikeville Pickers, this rousing production incorporates local folklore and much of the traditional music and dance handed down from the Elizabethean ancestors of these mountain dwellers.
