3. Ritualistic Vomit

While not Lycanthropy's Spell's best release, that would be reserved for Glorification of the Night, but it is a fascinating and rewarding release. Lycanthropy's Spell was comprised of Sarmak on guitars and vocals and Inferis on drums. On this recording we find them playing a form of depressive yet magical black metal, music that really takes you to another place, a dark morbid winter forest perhaps, fogged in and cold, and then doesn't let you out until the end of the tape.

Sarmak was one of the most original black metal guitarists you'll ever hear. He played in a fluid way that seems to be moving at its own desires and whims, always moving and leading you onward deeper down its dark misty paths. There is a strong folk element to his writing, yet it is not an obvious influence, more of something that is there as a basis to his writing style.

Inferis' drum work is fluid to match Sarmak's playing, he uses a number of beats on here, but in general his work on here is more standard black metal then his work on Glorification of the Night, on that release he does some amazing drum work that is integral to the very feeling and mood of the album. On here it fits and is often interesting.

This is a intense depressive journey, Lycanthropy's Spell was talented at taking you to another world with almost magical music that seems to speak volumes with very little. Like going to a dark frigid winter forest, this album transports you out of the pain of life. Though this album does feel a little more experimental, with a lot of ideas, not all of which work all the time, the fact that there are so many ideas and so much inspiration is one of the best things about this. LS had more ideas and more musical feeling then 90% of the current "scene."

This is one of my favorites and I suggest if you can find it to pick it up if you like raw atmospheric black metal.
