HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.

On September 2nd Techno mainstays Pig&Dan are set to release a special EP entitled ‘Modular Baptism (Remixes)’ via their own imprint, ELEVATE, which will soon celebrate its milestone 50th release.

This exclusive remix package features four stunning reworks of ‘Growler’ and ‘The Saint (Job San)’, the lead tracks taken from the duo’s acclaimed fourth album, ‘Modular Baptism’ which was released earlier this year. 

‘Modular Baptism’ was a record that further solidified Pig&Dan’s status as one of the most exciting Techno acts in the business, with the album claiming the #1 spot on Beatport and singles such as ‘Growler’ reaching the top spot in Beatport’s Techno chart and #2 overall.

Kicking off proceedings are two alluring reinterpretation of the duo’s aforementioned banger ‘Growler’. The first comes from Spanish DJ/producer Alberto Ruiz, who fuses the original’s deep resounding synth-riff with warped industrial sounding effects, and the second from rising London-based Brazilian-born talent Vinicius Honorio, who ventures down an even darker route with fierce distorted synths crashing against the more melodic moments of the track to great effect.

Following on are two excellent re-rubs of ‘The Saint (Job San)’. The first comes from revered NY based DJ/producer Boris, who turns the melodic masterpiece into a sharp, dark Techno roller featuring a relentless array of synth stabs. The second remix comes from French-born Geneva-based underground king Lee Van Dowski, who provides a euphoric sounding framework by bringing the original’s piano chords to the front of the mix and introducing squelching synths towards the end of the 8-minute number to further fuel the climatic finish.

‘Modular Baptism (Remixes)’ is available exclusively via Beatport on September 2nd and everywhere else two weeks later.

Gregorio Gomez aka Gladkazuka from Medellín, Colombia is a bandmember of RIONEGRO (Cómeme XXX) and also THE DESDEMONAS (on the fabulous Crammed Discs alongside Matias Aguayo) and probably the most dangerous man on Cómeme. A versatile musician, mainly known for his intense live sets in the sweaty basements of the Colombian underground, playing obscure club gems like this nocturnal track with that irresistible throbbing and detuning bassline that is taken away from you once in a while so you just start to long for more and more, and yes - we will actually hear more of him, soon on VOLUME TWO of the trilogy!

In original form ‘False Promises’ is a silky-smooth hybrid of nuanced disco influences and house with bags of soul. From the first bar their unique energy and personality shoots from the speakers instantly hypnotising you. Undulating with warmth and class, this is one disco journey you’ll want to take time and again. Anja’s remix takes a tougher, dubbier path. Thicker drums and subtle disco touches make way for a rolling groove and catches arps which mutate into acid in the break.
