Following Robert Hood’s remixes of his Floorplan tracks ‘Never Grow Old’ and ‘Phobia’ in June, he’s back with new edits of ‘Protein Valve’, originally released on M-Plant in 1994, the year of the label’s inception.

As well as other early releases like ‘Internal Empire’, ‘Music Data’ and ‘Moveable Parts’, ‘Protein Valve’ helped set the standard for his M-Plant label becoming synonymous with a stripped down, tough and rhythmic raw sound that many artists still try to emulate.

The original ‘Protein Valve EP’ is a classic in the annals of Techno, which still gets played today and sounds as fresh as it did some 20 years ago.  Nevertheless Robert Hood takes an introspective look back and delivers these three incredible new edits!

Focussing on the bass elements these fresh versions keep the M-Plant ethos at their core with their pure efficiency and Hood’s mastery at getting right to the point of a track, with his focus always on the groove.

E-Missions co-founder P.Leone returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids this September with ‘The My Lita Project’ backed with remixes from Mark Broom and Spencer Parker. 

Originally hailing from New York, P.Leone now resides in Berlin where he helms his E-Missions imprint with releases from himself and co-founder Caiazzo, exciting new artists like Rush Plus and Tred, not to mention remixes from Young Male, Spencer Parker and Lawrence Lee. Leone has also dropped a variety of releases on Rekids and Work Them Records, when not making regular appearances at clubs like Tresor and ://about blank. He now returns to Radio Slave’s respected imprint with ‘The My Lita Project’, following up his highly lauded ‘El Dorado’ EP that garnered support from Ben Sims, Jackmaster and Spencer Parker. 

‘My Lita’ kicks things off with classic synths, piercing strings and choppy vocals slices whilst robust drums march forward. Meanwhile, ‘Tight In The Pocket’ is more dark and menacing in comparison with its syncopated percussion, echoing claps and ethereal atmospherics. 

On the flip, Mark Broom drops two different remixes of ‘My Lita’; the first is a robust cut complete with disco elements like funky guitar licks and soulful voice, with the original’s stabs shining throughout, whilst the second remix takes a different route with its crunchy snares, moaning murmurs and fuzzy effects. Spencer Parker rounds things off with a remix of his own, chopping up the original’s vox whilst sultry pads join thumping kicks and quivering melodies.

Johannes Volk‘s career began in 2006 with a real bang. "The Mysteries Of Tharsis Montes" 12 inch debut from the vinyl collector was released by none other than techno virtuoso Jeff Mills on his Purpose of Mission 6277 label. A special accolade indeed, which proves Volk’s aesthetic connection to Detroit Techno, something he also demonstrates regularly on his own label Exploration Records. Following on from the "Tears and Walls" EP, his second release on Cocoon Recordings continues the tonal reference to the origins of techno in a highly unique style. "Nevergreen", with its driving sequencer synth, is a furious and mechanical workout with a harsh industrial vibe and unbelievable string textures that will shake the dance floor to its foundations. On the B-side "Awareness", Volk conjures up an unforgettably romantic soundscape without sacrificing any energy. After a solid minute, the foggy horizon opens up to one of those rare yet incredibly valuable moments, when you suddenly want to embrace the whole world from inside the club. With "Nevergreen" Cocoon Recordings presents an outstanding new 12" release to usher in 2019 and in doing so, sets a high standard for the coming year.
