Govan, Glasgow, ship building, industry, noise and the Lyceum bingo hall....not things that conjure up imagery of beach vibes, warm sunshine, cool breeze and your favorite drink. However, Govan native Neil Hood paints that very picture with his first release on 18-09, Lyceum Sunset.

Lyceum Sunset is very much a track that is produced for those poolside days with friends piecing together the night before or the build up to a night out. A Chic /Nile Rodgers guitar lick is what predominantly keeps you on the hook throughout the track, weaving its way throughout the funk beats, layered by a sweet female vox.

Label boss David Grant is on remix duties, picking up the bpm and flipping the lush and smooth original and giving it a beach house music rerub - perfect for those dusk sets.

New to the 18-09 roster comes Ryk. Having freshly graduated from "Soma Skool" - an offshoot of the legendary Soma Records, Ryky provides us with three excellent house tracks combining to form the Move It EP.

Move is the lead track to the EP and provides a superb introduction. Jacking house grooves set on top of solid basslines and interspersed with vocals stabs and subtle synth lines make this an excellent all rounder for all sets.

Work That picks the pace up that little bit more and hinges more towards tech house. Slight throw back to early house influences can also be heard with the use of acid sounds throughout.

Completing the EP is In That House which has a very current feel to it. Rising and phasing pads, deep basslines, 909 hats all combine to provide a superb finish.

(I Want You To) Get Mad - Taking a unique turn and sampling the film "Network", Caveman provides his own unique twist to jackin house. A real mix mash of sounds, disco percussion, funky guitar and tech beats all infuse to create Get Mad.

Feynman's Bongo - Another unique twist on this track, referencing physicist Richard Feynman within the title and again Caveman providing another well crafted blend of sounds. Deep bassline sits underneath vocal cuts and 70's esque funk guitar line that sets the track of perfectly.

Returning to 18-09 with the follow up to his number one track, On Right Now, comes Ryky with this tech stomper, Underground Perspective.

Sampling an interview from Detroit techno legend Carl Craig discussing his music, the original provides a top slice of tech house in, what is fast becoming, Ryky's signature sound. Grooving percussion, stomach trembling bass line and hint of acid synths, this track is sure to be another smash for Ryky.

Remixes come from Alex Descarada, head of CRAFT Underground Records, with his first release on 18-09, that strips the original back to a more minimal tech sound whilst making full use of the vocals.Fake Self completes the package with a more upbeat tech sound remix that would suit both house and tech sets.

Acid AJ returns once again to the label on the remix after the success of his previous track, I Don't Know. Acid AJ picks up the pace of the track with his tech house spin on the original mix and would work well in both tech house and warm up techno sets.

Relevance101 thumps into the EP with a speaker shaking 125bpm kick and bass combo layered with a filtering synth and pads spread throughout which gives the track a hypnotic edge and is very much of the time during this trance / techno revivial.

The tempo is picked up for Relevance102 and is the perfect foil to 101. The speaker shaking trance techno combination continues within 102 with the filtered trance esque synths again layered upon tough rolling techno beats.

Lex's Original Mix is a stripped back chunky tech house number which is very much of the current sound. Blended tough beats with chopped vocals, subtle rhodes and a throbbing bassline - Duck Down will have the dance floor moving in both tech house and early techno sets.

18-09 Records boss David Grant drops his new release, Late Nite Ride, which enfuses various elements of the house spectrum, minimal, funky and tech can all be found rolled up into the original mix.

Label favourite, Acid AJ, cranks it up a notch with a more tech house inspired remix which would lend itself well to both warm up and peak time sets as it drips with Balearic synths and makes full use of the vocals not heard on the original on this release.

New to the label is local Scottish talent, Phrase, who gives the original a boot up the arse and drives it forward onto a more pumping tech house lane which makes excellent use of the synths during the breaks.

Label boss, David Grant, releases his first track in over a year on his own imprint that comes in the sound of the acid infused Morrison.

Morrison draws heavily on the resurgence of the acid sound within techno tracks and laces this with piercing synth stabs, a 'Born Slippy' esque rolling bassline, and snappy percussion that could snap your back.

Jim Morrison of Doors fame provides some relevant and topical verse throughout the track that is fitting with today's world and sits as foil to the beats it straddles.

Gonna Let You Go, the new track from label head David Grant, is a sure fire 2021 track that is certain to rumble speakers in any scenario.

A difficult track to pin to any one genre, Gonna Let You Go, draws heavily from Grant's more recent techno tracks whilst pulling in a huge 90's trance esque synthline in the break, arps that are more akin to melodic house, a vocal from early warehouse raves and stabs that wouldn't be out of place in any techno track.

Cross genre track, catchy hook and a bass that will shake your core - certainly not to be missed.
