Born in the suburbs of Chicago, DJ Ajumma (neé June Nho) grew up on radio dance music like M/A/R/R/S, New Order, and Inner City. Attending her first rave in 8th grade, she later joined the Streetbeat DJs at Northwestern’s WNUR and developed a deep techno collection that she’s been hauling around since the late 90s. She moved to Los Angeles and worked on music videos and commercials, met her husband at Coachella, and is currently in Seattle making films and working in the community. 

Ajumma means "madam" in Korean. One addresses middle-aged women with this term. The Ajumma is an archetype in Korean culture, but most importantly, she is a woman that has paid their dues and is free of the structures and shackles of the "feminine". They impart wisdom, they do what they want, and they DNGAF.
