Each year, we select artists to curate a second afterhours stage that leans away from dancefloor-oriented music and more into calming, atmospheric tones. @Mozghan and @darkentriesrecords did a remarkable job executing on the concept. The pair kicked off the stage on Saturday evening with a moody, cosmic journey of their own.

This was recorded on a farm at night in the forest among a small group of friends. This mix is just another example of what I've been doing for the better part of my life - sensing the room while winging it out of a "bag" of music to help express myself and experience the moment. I was told the next day that I (paraphrase) "soaked up the weekend and reflected it back out to us." That was one of the most flattering compliments I have ever received. A recording will never fully capture the moment but I hope you enjoy the music nonetheless.

Paul Fleetwood gained notoriety as co-founder & resident DJ of his events crew Humanaut and "club" Hot Mass (Pittsburgh, PA) alongside his involvement in DIY events throughout the country. Paul currently writes and produces music out of Denver, CO, and has recently found a voice through the operation of his record label Perimeter Junk.

New York's DJ Voices is drawn towards the unexpected. We spoke at a Japanese restaurant in Dublin (where she'd later play to a crowd of Halloween revellers and well-dressed 20-somethings), and she pointedly said that she would play a whole set of up-tempo tracks slowed down using the CDJ's wide function (which can slow or speed up the track as much as 100%). It's a tactic she makes use of at several points during her Truancy Volume, which manages to feel both like a club set and a soundtrack mix made just with you, the listener, in mind. Having recently watched a lengthy interview with DJ Voices conducted by Willie Burns for his Talk Radio series, we opted against rehashing her total backstory here. Instead, we talked about her current European tour, her work as booker for New York club Nowadays, her goals as a DJ and the music in her record bag.

Q. How would you describe yourself? (DJ, producer, artist, etc.)
A. I think ADAB is definitely more of an intention to be conjured then a singular moniker for a person. It’s an instance of exploring self/collective through an array of sounds from or influenced by cultures of color and the worlds they influence at large (which are quiet a few). It's also intended to be a direct expression of afrofuturism. A humble attempt to make sets and mixes made for emboldening and envisioning future instances of pan african and POC beauty in dance music.


Q. Any memorable club nights in NY? 
A. My latest memorable club night in NYC is also the last one I was able to spin live before everything shut down. I played Public Records alongside my dear friend CCL and it was a much needed gig/trip. We played a lot of drummy stuff we both love throughout the night and eventually ended on a Jungle/DnB note which was a dream to do with them. The crowd was super into it, outwardly showed love the entire time, and danced their asses off the whole time. It was a blast!


Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. I decided to finally explore a lot of my 90-100 bpm percussive stuff that I’ve accumulated over time for this one. Up until now almost all my mixes have been above or around 130 bpm so it was nice to slow it down and mess around with this section of my collection. Definitely intended to be a psychedelic hip churner! There's also a few dear homies like CCL, Flora FM, Ali Berger, & Russell E. L. Butler in here as well so big shouts to them for some of these lovely tracks <3 Enjoy!

Originating as one of the driving forces behind In Training, a long running queer event series founded in Cleveland Ohio in 2014, she materialized through the rhythms of life & her loved ones that reflect the rustbelt environment she was birthed from. Now a Pittsburgh resident, she continues her lifelong journey of communicating through the sounds of the mother drum.
