BBC Radio One - Essential Mix

The first submission for Off-Kilter comes from Brooklyn based producer and DJ Ayesha. Plunging into the series with full force, this mix - Tactilia - represents our wonky, heady club vision and it's undeniably explosive.

Ayesha's tactile club productions trace an arc across techno, bass, and diasporic influences with devastating results. Having only released her solo debut on NYC staple Kindergarten Records a year prior, the release of Ayesha’s latest EP ‘Potential Energy’ on UK label Scuffed Recordings has marked the crescendo of a year-long wave of momentum for the artist. Her latest work received critical praise from Mixmag (Best Tracks of the Year 2021), RA (Best New Music), DJ Mag (Fresh Kicks), and the hotly-tipped Lobster Theremin (LT Podcast 176) who join a growing list of international supporters. Most recently in March 2022, Ayesha joined the highly regarded roster of residents at Nowadays: one of New York's most forward-thinking nightlife institutions.

Off-Kilter 001 - Ayesha

Born from OOST club of north NL, the character of MSJY continually changes form. Taking early shapes in residencies with Noorderling, De School, Griessmuehle, and currently Oxi, she shifts to bill without compromising her sound and unafraid to provoke; her sets are characterised by pace, energy and a balancing of different moods. Innovative club producer Syz is next up on Untitled 909 with an electrifying mix that channels the dizzying energy you can find within his releases for labels such as Control Freak Recordings, Femme Culture, and Pressure Dome. Very, very soon you will find him on the much-loved Bristol/Berlin label Banoffee Pies Records. A much-loved DJ within the UK circuit, he has played at events for the likes of Unbound, Bliss Print, The Cause, Queen's Yard Summer Party and next month will be playing for the Maple Cuts crew to Venue MOT. 

In his own words, “the mix is a club ready excursion into some recent favourites I've been hammering. Unreleased music from myself, Tammo Hesselink and Amaliah inside, weaved in with some tribal classics from Oliver Ho and many more flavours.”
