Newly unearthed gem of the Nottingham Grime scene, Avaword lands a starting birth with an ill-tempered vocal reminiscent of the early 00’s over a Drill influenced Grime instrumental from fellow Nottingham producer Frost, even sampling ‘Oi’ for a nod to the original sound on ‘7am’. Raybee and Rakjay link up for a heavyweight Dubstep roller on ‘Where The Bar Is’. Leeds’ very own Buckley see’s his first official release with the label after appearances at the club nights this past season, as does Untrodden Grove, delivering two more thumping low end Dubstep contributions with ‘B.D.B’ and ‘Abbies Nightmare’ respectively.

1Forty sees its last paid release of the year in the shape of BSS009. The ninth edition of the Bass series pairs 4x4 Bassline legend TRC with Anti Social Services’ Avaword for ‘Sweatiest Shubz’. Killjoy makes a long awaited return to the label with a first original release for the first time since 2019 alongside Manny Mashup with ‘Don’t Run’. J69 keeps up the 4x4 Bassline theme on his fourth consecutive BSS appearance with ‘Warpin Hell’ before moving into the lower tempo of the bass sound with another pairing returning, Germany’s Bass and UKG duo Indialman, this time alongside Arth.exe offering up ‘Tooled Up’.

Also featuring is newcomer but a name on everyones lips in the scene - ODF, with another Speed Garage roller for more club ready sounds, with Richard Wright for a 00’s inspired 2 step smash.

'Cellar' took inspiration from the bass sound of the initial resurgence in 2015/2016 and Burts favourite UK venue in Oxford 'The Cellar' where the sound initially regained traction before its closure a couple of years ago, so it only seemed right we got a VIP together to pay further homage for another fallen UK venue.

In 2019 Arma started his ‘Edits’ series which soon whipped up some traction over the pandemic as he added more and more flips to the series. In Spring of this year Arma dropped Vol. 3 on Bandcamp which featured the familiar sounds of French Montana’s ‘Shot Caller’ as made popular in the UK underground by Jammz & Jack Dat after it became one of the most played instrumentals in Grime sets and live shows throughout the scene over the past two years. Arma has applied his Funky and Jersey panache to give it a further revamp on his ‘If Its Nice Flip It Twice VIP’ which we simply couldn’t turn down despite not seeing the original.

Arma, the 27 year old producer based in London started producing and DJ’ing in 2009 which is clear to hear in the quality of his output and the labels he’s released on. Taking a mass of inspiration from late 90s House, R&B and Hip Hop for sampling, combined with his influence from key pioneers in Bass music, Redlight, My Nu Leng, Notion and Jamz Supernova it’s no surprise to learn his release on Redlight’s Lobster Boy imprint in 2019 was his best accolade to date. 2015 saw ‘Vex’ picked up by Monki for Fabriclive 81 and an appearance on LA based label Juke Bounce Werk further bolstered his reputation seeing him pick up shows across the UK. From club level at the likes of Soup Kitchen (Manchester) to festival level at the likes of Southbeats (Kent) before the challenge of COVID shackled the music industry and its habitants in 2020. When most struggled for inspiration and productivity Arma embraced the challenge with a string of self releases taking advantage of Bandcamp’s focus on supporting artists via ‘Bandcamp Days’ throughout the pandemic building up his discography with high calibre originals and edits which he’s now reaping the rewards seeing Notion getting behind this release in particular at a variety of club shows and festivals alike, as well as his latest mix for Dummy Magazine.

It's been 18 months since we last saw Dunman appear on the label after sampling Ruff Sqwad’s ‘Xtra’ and turning it into a Drill influenced Grime instrumental for Lyrical Strally’s ‘Grime Street’ acapella taking the Grime slot on the 1Forty Acapella EP.

Since then hes ramped things up once more within that time with production credits now under his belt for 2022 MOBO nominee Manga, appearing on BBC Radio 1's Soundsystem Christmas Carnival Special w/ Jeremiah Asiamah for a Guest Mix and stacking his support list even higher with dubplate king Riz La Teef regularly backing his dub packs. 'The Renegade (Dunman's Speedy G Edit)' is making it ways out of one of said packs as we kick off 2022 with a freebie to get the raves bumping.

Dunman is an extremely versatile Grime/140 producer based on the south coast who started out on Logic at the age of 18, and now 25, recently graduated from Bournemouth Uni in Music & Sound Production. Despite the hectic student lifestyle he allowed himself plenty of time to churn out beats at an alarming rate, releasing on the likes of Boxed and Southpoint and regularly sending out dub packs to the top 140 DJ’s, he often receives support from the likes of Oblig, LCY, Neffa T, Glume, Gundam, Rapture 4D, Daseplate and J Beatz to name a few.

Dunman is renound for not just his originals but an ever growing list of refix’s and edits which are essential for any Grime DJ in the dance. It is where he has some of the most fun with producing combining his taste for sampling and love of numerous genres to create for any given scenario, whether that be an RnB esque ‘wifey riddim’ or a Grime flip of a house classic to turn a dance on its head you can be sure Dunman has the productions for any situation. It’s lead him to have an ever growing list of guest appearances on the likes of Reprezent, Mode FM, 1020 Radio (Bristol) and Trickstar (Brighton) and more recently Rinse FM and BBC Radio 1, and a number of bookings across the coast supporting the likes of D Double E, Killjoy, Joker, Royal-T, J.D Reid and plenty of others.

Dunman - The Renegade (Friend Within - Renegade Master Dunman's Speedy G Edit) [Free DL]

Forca made his 1Forty entrance in April 2020 with Deadbeat UK. This time the label wanted to make a collaboration happen that would go down in Bassline history. Forca reached out with a 128mp3 instrumental he'd found deep in his hard drive from 2008 from no other than the Bassline King DJ Pantha and the project began with the engineer rebuilding it from the ground up to bring it into 2022.

Dudley’s DJ Pantha has been a leading pioneer of the Bassline scene since 2007 alongside Jamie Duggan and DJ Q. From ‘Candy Shop’ and the rest of his prolific catalogue over that 5 year period his mark is recognised far beyond the Bassline scene with a number of advocates from the wider UK scene such as JP (Editor-In-Chief, Complex UK), Toddla T and DJ Target who is always keen to remind listeners of his influence. The Midlands producer was invited back to BBC 1Xtra for a #BasslineTeamTakeover in 2021 with all the MC greats from the Bassline era such as Trilla, Bomma B, K Dot, Tez Kidd and Asher Bodr amongst others.

Since his nod back to music after his hiatus he has since had releases across Crucast and Shall Not Fade with his legendary status still seeing him regularly perform at 2:31 in Birmingham, Tank in Sheffield and Bassline Festival.

Forca is one of the select few MC’s on the bassline circuit that has enjoyed a stellar tour schedule with the rise of the scene and a solid discography to boot. 2015 saw his debut release on a Red Bull Studios EP with Spoils which was a resounding success. A number of hits followed including ‘Certain Beat’ and ‘Listen’ both alongside Deadbeat, and ‘Do This’ alongside Notion with a self released 7 track Grime EP coming in between those with production from the likes of the late Terror Danjah and Rapture 4D.

2019 was the most intense for the Sheffield MC, hosting for some of the biggest DJs in the bass scene - TQD, Jamie Duggan, Sammy Virji and Cause & Affect amongst others whilst playing some massive shows at the likes of Reading & Leeds Festival, Southbeats Festival, Bassfest, Tokyo World and Sector 6 at Boomtown as well as international shows in Lyon, Croatia (Outlook Festival) and Amsterdam (Spring Break Festival) with 24hr Garage Girls. All of this whilst other hugely more recent successful releases such as ‘Girls’ alongside Deppz, and ‘Nah Don’t Think So’ with Chip Butty Records head honcho Dr Cryptic have cemented his place as a mainstay at the forefront of the scene as MC, host, artist and DJ, but not only that as he’s bringing a whole generation of Sheffield talent through on his label Wub Club which only gained more and more traction throughout COVID with a string of highly reputable releases before making a splash once again when the clubs opened back up with ‘Gunfingers’ alongside Thorpey teeing up nicely for his first release of 2022 and the long overdue collab with DJ Pantha.

Two fresh faces round of 1FBSS007 in the form of Lil Milly and Manny Mashup, both of whom have two very different journeys in Bassline yet both have a sound that capture the original sound some 10-15 years later as proven with their first official collab together for 'The Steppa'.

Lil Milly started producing in 2003 which explains why his sound his so authentic. Like DJ Pantha he was also from Dudley in the Birmingham area so was very much part of the Bassline boom in the late 2000s, also working together on a number of occasions. However it wasn't until two years ago when he decided to start taking releasing music seriously after seeing the success of his peers. His first official release 'Bumbafunk' went viral pre release when a clip from TRC and Murkz playing it on a livestream in lockdown exploded on Twitter. That release went on to set the groundworks for his near two decades of producing off the bat going on to play shows in Sheffield and Birmingham alongside the likes of Nasteeboi and Thorpey. The release also saw massive support from Bassline legends like DJ Q and DJ EJ.

Manny Mashup was somewhat only exposed to underground music after moving to Manchester Met in 2017. Immediately getting the bug after regular visits to Antwerp Mansion he started DJ'ing and securing regular slots on the infamous Bloc2Bloc. By the time he finished uni he had become very invested in learning production and two years on he's had releases across Tumble Audio and ProjectAllOut amassing support from the likes of Killjoy, Deadbeat and even the likes of Window Kid after he latched onto his debut EP on Instagram bumping it on his socials regularly. Taking masses of amounts of inspiration from the Birmingham Bassline producers such as Swifta Beater, DJ Pantha and Lil Milly its safe to say his debut on 1Forty is somewhat of a full circle moment putting out his first ever collab with Lil Milly with DJ Pantha heading up the release.

Blending elements of Broken Beat, UK Garage, Soca and House into his own off-kilter take on bass music, Murder He Wrote’s playful productions and edits have been destroying clubs worldwide for some years now. Originally breaking out via a flurry of releases on the Roska Kicks & Snares imprint, MHW’s tracks have gained heavy support from a diverse range of dance music's most respected tastemakers including Mary Anne Hobbs, DJ EZ, Gilles Peterson, Redlight and Jamz Supernova. Working across 3 decks, his eclectic, low-end focused DJ sets have seen him land guest mixes on BBC Radio 1, Boiler Room, NTS, Rinse FM and BBC 6Music - alongside a touring schedule that’s taken in clubs and festivals around the world including Fabric, Ministry Of Sound and Outlook.

Adam Harper aka Ghoulish stormed onto the UK music scene in 2021 with his intricate and powerful dancefloor-shaking production style. In less than a year of releasing new music he's received regular support from the legends of the rave scene such as Skream, My Nu Leng Holy Goof, Notion, Sammy Virji and Riz La Teef to name a few as well as being coined a UKF ones to watch in 2022.

Further to his impressive production, Ghoulish cut his teeth in 2018 with the sounds of dubstep and drum and bass, which has helped him incorporate a fast-paced, energetic and unique style to his own productions and DJ sets. His DJ sets are regularly filled with his own productions as well as rare dubplates and unreleased tracks from his favourite producers, spanning from UKG, grime, breakbeats, 4x4, 140, jungle and everything in between which makes the Mancunians sets hard to put him in a box - just how we like it.

Ghoulish devises anything from UKG and speed garage/bassline to the depths of dubstep and grime whilst also being able to turn his hand to euphoric breakbeats and up-tempo rave cuts with ease, usually taking inspiration from those combination of genres in part and fusing them together.

His 2-track vinyl release on ec2a (1999/Buss It Up) in 2021 sold out in less than 10 hours and has been hugely sort-after since, which is how he first landed on 1Forty's radar. Fast forward 9 months later and a submission to the 1Forty Acapellas #2 project landed in our inbox taking Logan's patois vocal from his and Hamdis 'Bun Dem Down' and turning it into a speed garage warper for one of the biggest UKG records on the label this year.

1Forty welcomes newcomer Dominus to the label, with another veteran MC - Riko Dan. A record fit for the deepest darkest corners of the UKG rave scene which is the epitome of the sound coming out of the clubs right now.

Born in London and raised in Jersey, Dominus is currently the name on the lips of the underground. With a passion for instruments from a young age, and electronic music as a teen, he began his production journey at 16. He has experimented with various electronic genres over the years to thank for the many influences in his eclectic sound that he’s carved out for himself as a now established name in the UK bass music space.

Successful releases on Strictly Flava and Wang Records inspired him to drop his own independent vinyl EP project ‘Sweet n Sour’ which sold out 300 copies in less than a month. This saw his tracks get picked up by Shall Not Fade and ec2a in the months that followed, the latter a collab with Riko Dan. A whirlwind 2021 and 2022 resulted in support from the pioneers of the UK underground DJ EZ, Skream, Conducta as well as Disclosure which has lead him to seeing the year out linking up with Riko Dan once more on ‘Just Like This’.

Born and raised in London, Riko began MCing at age 15 on Drum and Bass pirate stations. Before long he was rolling with the best of them in Wiley’s Pay As U Go Cartel. When eski clicks replaced breaks and a new generation of South London vocalists took over the pirates, Riko was armed and ready. In the years since he has gone on to be ever present and as versatile as they come with iconic records over the years alongside Pinch & Mumdance, Trends & Boylan, The Bug, Friction, Skream, Foreign Beggars, Y U QT and the list just goes on and on.

Seven years after the first ever release, 1Forty adds the final string to its bow. A format that’s been longly coveted after teasing one off lathe cuts over the years for artists’ keeps sake, and what better way to launch its vinyl format than with 2 staples of the 140 sound on a global scale. Bristol’s Sir Hiss links up with 1Forty OG Hamdi for an eclectic exploration into a Grime influenced Dubstep track resonant of the mid 00’s, where the sounds came to be infused, as artists and labels came together to take Dubstep outside of South London and beyond.

Sir Hiss has made a name for himself as one of the mainstays in the bass music scene. With his innovative and genre-defying sound, he has become known for his ability to seamlessly blend through the whole spectrum of underground dance music in his sets and production.

Beginning his career in Bristol's underground music scene, Sir Hiss quickly gained a reputation for his unique sound and technical prowess. He has since released a string of critically acclaimed projects, such as the seminal 12” cut ‘Danny Uzi Vert’, the anthemic ‘Rolling’ with long-time collaborator Emz, ‘Outsiders Live Forever’ with Roll Deep originator Manga Saint Hilaire and a slew of other releases on Hospital Records, Wych, Trapdoor and more.

In addition to his successful music career, Sir Hiss has also launched his own imprint, ‘No More Mailouts’, a no-fussing, back-to-basics outlet for anything with a thumping great low end. Equally at home cooking up bangers in the studio, or shelling raves behind the decks, Sir Hiss continues to solidify his position as a producer and DJ to watch - closely.

As for Hamdi, he is another that is currently one of the most versatile producers in the scene making a great fit for his coming together with Sir Hiss. Hamdi’s ability to produce a wide range of styles and genres has made him an exciting prospect for any label to get their hands on. Hamdi’s signature blend of UK Garage, Dubstep and Grime has earned him support from some of the biggest artists in the world, including Skrillex, Knife Party, Noisia, Zeds Dead and Porter Robinson. Closer to home, Hamdi has consistently received support from the UK Underground Scene’s most prestigious acts, including DJ EZ, Sir Spyro, Sherelle and Mala. He has also had releases on labels such as Kiwi Rekords, Southpoint, Grottingham and 1Forty and his tracks can regularly be heard on Radio Stations such as BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM and Reprezent.

Four Eyes has fast become a need to know producer in the underground. Based in Hertfordshire, the young UKG protege has made huge strides over the past 18 months, with an array of bootlegs and original productions doing damage in A-list DJs sets. From initially being picked up by the queens of UKG scene Girls Don’t Sync, he’s become a staple in many headline artists sets with plays coming in left, right and centre from Printworks, Warehouse Project, DJ Mag livestreams and clubs around the UK, to the other side of the world in Australia and New Zealand courtesy of Conducta.

Producing since a young teen, some six years on he’s watched the UKG sound take off for a second time, taking huge inspiration from current stars of the scene and beyond such as Skrillex, Salute, Interplanetary Criminal and Sammy Virji. Since embedding himself firmly in the Buntai collective with tracks already hitting over a quarter of a million streams and being widely supported, he’s already been getting some of the action for himself, playing shows in London at the likes of Hootenanny, right up to Manchester at the infamous Hidden and Joshua Brooks.

Not shy of a chaotic edit for the clubs, some of whom are well aware from his take on Rihannas ‘Disturbia’, he steps forward once more with a Grime/UKG hybrid flip of Skeptas legendary ‘I Spy’ for his first appearance on 1Forty for their first free download of 2023.

The collaboration didn’t disappoint with a typical 4x4 Bassline influence from the young Huddersfield producer, teeing up Breeza to do what we’ve come to expect from him over the years, before a switch up of all switch ups turned it into a track of two halves that was tearing up the clubs, making it hard to ignore as the BSS choice for a VIP from the past 12 months.

The Illustration x Breeza - Continue VIP [Free DL]

Based in the heart of Nottingham's thriving music scene, Avaword of Antisocial Services has already made an indelible mark in a relatively short time. Having shared the stage with Slimzee and Flowdan at major venues like Hidden Warehouse in Nottingham and Manchester's Rebellion Club, the MC of the next generation of 0115 has been able to amplify his presence at stage shows already.

His debut EP ‘Let's Av It’ released on Window Kid's Wow Camp Records label making an instant splash in the scene and showcased his potential on a massive scale through the Crucast MC’s platform.

2023 saw the launch of the monthly show of Antisocial Services on Lowertone, alongside JJ and Panic Pat, a link up that is swiftly gaining traction.

His music has found endorsement from renowned Nottingham artists like Window Kid, Frost, Kyeza, Snowy, Shadow, and Phidizz with collaborations already locked down with the majority, whilst also getting works down with other well-known artists of the Grime and Dubstep scene including Vandull and Daseplate.

Influenced by a broad spectrum of not just Nottingham artists mentioned, being an avid follower of his local scene growing up, Avaword also takes a lot of inspiration from the heavy metal genre with his dark and aggressive attitude toward lyricism, especially from Slipknot.

A crucial part of Avawords journey so far is his friendship and collaboration with his favourite producer and close friend, Frost. Despite only starting his music career officially twelve months ago, he has successfully produced and released two collaboration EPs within six months, a testament to Frost's mentorship and his personal dedication which will go a long way in the making of the MC shaking up todays Grime scene.

Hailing from Nottingham's torchbearing 140 scene, Frost is a dynamic force in music production, engineering, and mixing. Having played at numerous local clubs including Bodega, Hidden, and Bar 11, Frost's sound also resonates internationally with successful tours across America, Canada, and extensive parts of Europe, most notably as 1 half of the duo - Congi.

Frost's work has earned regular support from established artists like Window Kid, Darkzy, Sicaria, Main Phase, and Riz La Teef, plus Jack Dat and Sir Spyro giving consistent plays on the airwaves on Rinse FM and BBC Radio 1Xtra respectively.

A standout career highlight of recent is the infamous CKY RIP release in 2020, a highly sought-after record with three represses on 12" vinyl releases on Pondlife, before dropping a successful collaboration album 'ColdLife' with Kyeza at the end of 2022.

As a freelance audio engineer at DTR Studios in Nottingham, Frost has worked with an expansive list of local talent listing nearly every notable MC out of Nottingham, including Window Kid, Kyeza, Snowy, BIGMINI, Kibo, Shxdow, Phidizz, and Pubzy.

Dubstep maestro Buckley hails from the outskirts of Bristol. The 23-year-old artist has been honing DJ’ing and producing since lockdown in 2020. After four transformative years in Leeds, he has rapidly ascended the underground scene, cementing his presence in festivals and clubs across Leeds, Manchester, and Bristol. He has have graced stages at renowned festivals including Outlook, El Dorado, Wax Palace, and Nass, and he's rocked venues like Wire, Hifi, and Sheaf St with sell-out shows.

During his journey, he's released music on several esteemed labels, including Taipan Trax, Daku Records, Northside, Gimmeabreak, Outhouse, Ruff Time and now 1Forty after playing a number of label nights already. He's also had the opportunity to support several artists at events, including Neffa-T, Hamdi, Interplanetary Criminal, Mike Skinner, and Bluetoof, among others.

His output took a sharp rise seeing Sicaria Sound play one of his tracks at the Warehouse Project, and it getting a reload - an experience that further fueled his passion for dubstep and the amount of focus put in to producing. Seeing his music resonate with audiences and earn the admiration of artists he looks up to is a constant source of inspiration. Untrodden Grove is a duo built on the dark sounds of the 140 spectrum. Consisting of Liam and Tom from Redditch and Bromsgrove respectively.

Avaword makes his second genre release appearance in a row after making his debut on 1FGRM009, heading up the release with ‘7am’. He takes the lead once more giving us his first official Bassline release for ‘Sweatiest Shubz’ with none other than 4x4 Bassline GOAT - TRC.

Based in the heart of Nottingham's thriving music scene, Avaword of Antisocial Services has already made an indelible mark in a relatively short time. Having shared the stage with Slimzee and Flowdan at major venues like Hidden Warehouse in Nottingham and Manchester's Rebellion Club, the MC of the next generation of 0115 has been able to amplify his presence at stage shows already.

His debut EP ‘Let's Av It’ released on Window Kid's Wow Camp Records label making an instant splash in the scene and showcased his potential on a massive scale through the Crucast MC’s platform.

2023 saw the launch of the monthly show of Antisocial Services on Lowertone, alongside JJ and Panic Pat, a link up that is swiftly gaining traction.

His music has found endorsement from renowned Nottingham artists like Window Kid, Frost, Kyeza, Snowy, Shadow, and Phidizz with collaborations already locked down with the majority, whilst also getting works down with other well-known artists of the Grime and Dubstep scene including Vandull and Daseplate.

TRC should need no introduction as one of the originators of Bassline, and also a large contributor to the late 00’s of the Grime sound.  He had his first break in 2006 with ‘Break Up VIP’ Ft Zoe. The Wolverhampton producer followed up with two of the biggest Bassline tracks of all time. The first being ‘Lately’ linking up with Zoe once more a year later in 2007, before the infamous ‘Wobbler Part 3’ alongside Trilla and Asher in 2008, both making waves up and down the country making a statement of what was to come for both sounds respectively.   Throughout that period he was working on a number of Grime Instrumentals that could be heard anywhere Grime was on the airwaves at the time - most notably from Logan Sama’s Kiss FM show ‘AfterHours’ and Sir Spyro’s Grime Show on Rinse FM, becoming one of the most sought after producers in the scene by vocalists. In 2010 that was cemented with another classic ‘Oo Aa Ee’ releasing on vinyl via Butterz, which was also vocalled by P Money a year later, entitled ‘Boo You’.

With a career nearly spanning two decades, TRC has carved out his longevity through staying true to his sounds, whilst collaborating with a number of A-list artists such as Giggs, Skepta, Kano, Trim, Dapz On The Map, Sir Spyro, Paleface, Champion, T2, Virgo & more that has seen him sign to Ministry Of Sound, Warner Music Group (WMG), Sony, and more recently BE83.  Being on the circuit for such a sustained period of time has seen TRC be a key figure at some of the most reputable venues and promotions around the UK at pivotal times, such as Niche, Sidewinder and Fabric in the golden eras of Bassline and Grime. He’s carried the torch for the same sound into the modern era of venues where 4x4 Bassline can still be heard ringing out at the likes of Tank (Sheffield), Bassfest, and The Warehouse (Leeds), the latter where he hosts his own promotion 4TheBasslineCulture & Bassline Classics.

Common ground has always been shared with 1Forty and became a friend of the label through the focus on the foundations of underground culture, specifically within Grime and Bassline. Killjoy makes a long awaited return to the label with his last original release coming in 2019, this time delivering his first Bassline release alongside new generational talent Manny Mashup both of whom are keeping the raw 4x4 Bassline sound alive and kicking with ‘Don’t Run’.

Having being a key player in Nottingham’s underground music scene over the past decade before emigrating to Australia, his productions have been duly rewarded with consistent releases on the likes of Champion’s Label - Formula Records, Time Is Now, Slimzos Recordings, Sector 7, Extra Spicy and last but not least Tumble Audio. The Label he has pioneered since starting out alongside his own venture - Joyride. His hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed over the years with productions for the likes of D Double E as well as mix’s for FabricLive & THUMP.

Manny Mashup was somewhat only exposed to underground music after moving to Manchester Met in 2017. Immediately getting the bug after regular visits to Antwerp Mansion he started DJ'ing and securing regular slots on the infamous Bloc2Bloc.

By the time he finished uni he had become very invested in learning production and two years on he's had releases across Tumble Audio and ProjectAllOut amassing support from the likes of Killjoy, Deadbeat and even the likes of Window Kid after he latched onto his debut EP on Instagram bumping it on his socials regularly.

Taking masses of amounts of inspiration from the Birmingham Bassline producers such as Swifta Beater, DJ Pantha and Lil Milly its safe to say in the time since, he has becoming one of the most well known of the new generation producers of the original sound, with consistent output and a cult following on TikTok as we move into his 3rd 1Forty release.

In 2021 Indialman became only the second international artists to appear on the label. Alex & Ashef out of Essen, Germany brought a weighty underground take on the infamous Mr. Ozio’s ‘Flat Beat’ from 1999 for our Free Download Series, making this their first official release alongside Brazils Arth.exe who becomes another international debutant for ‘Tooled Up’.

With the Indialman project only starting in 2018 and properly gaining traction in 2019 their rise came at a strange time, right in the midst of a pandemic preventing them from properly spreading their wings in live environments. You may be mistaken in thinking that would of held them back but it seemed to give them even more motivation to make themselves standout with their productions amassing support from the key tastemakers leading the UKG scene - DJ EZ, Conducta, Sammy Virji & Smokey Bubblin’ B.

Outside the UKG scene this has even lead to support from Night Bass boss AC Slater across the pond on his ever popular streams as we adjust to temporary life without raves. It’s been over two years since a 140 Single entered the free download series on the label, as fresh talent T!M joins the ranks with a flip of M.I.K’s ‘Ice Rink’. Newcomer to the label but a name on everyones lips in the scene is ODF, with a Speed Garage roller 'Know Dis' for more club ready sounds to compliment 1FFNG009.

ODF is a 19 year old, Leeds-based DJ and producer originally from London who incorporates his love for grime, garage and jungle into his high energy bass-orientated sets. With releases across labels such as Diamond Hand Records, Beastwang and Southpoint many of his productions have caught the attention of some high-profile artists such as Interplanetary Criminal, Mainphase and p-rallel, leading to a release on Hardline Records aswell as support on Radio 1, Kiss FM, Rinse FM and Reprezent.

ODF closed our 2022/23 season last Summer at Wire and has been in touch with the label ever since.

Richard Wright makes his first appearance on the label since April 2022 where he first signed with the label for 1FFNG007 with his track entitled 'Trust Meh'. He returns 2 years on with a 00’s inspired 2 step smash 'Deja'.

Despite producing on and off since 2005, COVID and the resulting lockdowns allowed Richard Wright the time and headspace to start taking things a bit more seriously. Initially being unearthed with his first official release in February 2021 by UKG label Strictly Flava. From that release and the early send out of ‘Trust Meh’ he has already received plays across Rinse, Balami and SWU with support from the likes of this EP’s very own Gemi as well as Ollie Rant, Daffy, Chimpizm and a bag of other UKG producers who are leading the line nicely for underground UKG.

From listening to his discography it's not hard to understand how his inspiration came from the tape pack and record shop culture of the mid 90s to early 2000s. With the recent resurgence of pioneers like El-B and new school producers embracing the UKG and Breaks movement that alone was enough to make the Brummy producer get his skates on and start getting some projects exported out his PC and making 2022 the year he started his push and has been consistent with his output since.

Yancey makes his debut on the label by taking Yizzy back to his 140 roots with a gritty Dubstep flip of his announcement to the Drill & UK Rap scene with ’Blue Freestyle’ that was first released in 2021.

Born and raised in New Zealand & now residing in Bristol, Yancey has built a name for himself in his homeland's underground music scene & beyond, known for his eclectic sound & unique performance style drawing inspiration from the rich history of hip-hop, jungle/drum & bass & their many contemporary offshoots. Having been part of the Label since Day 1 when he laid down a statement of intent with lead track ‘Compute Riddim’ Ft Killa P & Badness on the debut release when the Label arm was formed - 1FGRM001. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him back with his first track to enter our Single’s Free DL series with a UKG take of Danny Weeds iconic ‘Salt Beef’, one of 9TRANES favourite Grime instrumentals of all time from the producer and member of Roll Deep.

9TRANE’s rich history with 1Forty is woven with his unique trademark sound yet versatile approach including ‘Assault’ on 1FGRM002, and ‘Appletize’ which made ripples throughout the scene. A debutant on the 1Forty Label, Ali McK is one of the most exciting talents rising out of the UK Funky scene right now. The 20 year old producer has being a contributing force to pushing Funky over the past 12 months both producing it and pushing it out through his own Label - Articulate Sound. Having also released on other reputable Labels with IYZ on the likes of More Time Records and In:flux Audio this has lead him to gain support support from the likes of Roska, Murder He Wrote, My Nu Leng, Distro, Killjoy, Marcus Nasty and loads more.

Arriving like a freight train out of seemingly nowhere, Higgo has taken the UK Garage and Bass scene by storm. Blending UKG sensibilities with his passion for old school hip hop and the raw, bass focused attributes of the current sound of UK underground music, Higgo has quickly seen his music pick up support from top names in the scene, most notably the ‘Prince of Garage’ Conducta and Todd ‘The God’ Edwards which sees him land on 1Forty for the first time with a soulful UKG cut.

In 2019 Higgo’s music has been featured heavily by DJs across 1Xtra, Rinse and Reprezent, making appearances himself on the latter two. His reworks of Ms Dynamite’s ‘Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’ and Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ have received a hugely positive response, picking up heavy support from Sammy Virji and being uploaded by YouTube channel The Deeprot with the tracks achieving a combined play count of over 350,000 on Soundcloud alone. Higgo has released with Wang Records, Four40 and Rare Supply, his debut EP came out on the latter in June 2019. The ‘’95 EP’ went straight to the top of the Juno Download chart and has since had ‘Work’ feature in Spotify’s own editorial playlist, ‘New UK Garage’.

Higgo’s ever increasing popularity has resulted in headline shows up and down the country, including Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Exeter and Plymouth. He also made multiple appearances on Sammy Virji’s ‘Like A Virjin: Part II’ tour and held down support slots for Mind of a Dragon, El-B, Sharda and Royal-T. During festival season Higgo was at Forbidden Forest and BassFest and also took part in Conducta’s ‘Redbull Roadblock’ in Sheffield.

Like Logan, Hamdi is fresh off the back of the last Genre Release (1FFNG004) with his first ever vocal release ‘What You Gonna Do’ which was a vintage UK Funky circa 2008/2009 esqu sounding production from Retrospect complimented by a back and forth vocal between the talented Brighton producer/MC and Razor. Cosigned by the likes of Marcus Nasty and receiving support across Rinse and Reprezent it was widely well received.

Hamdi delivers his first production on the label since the debut 1Forty Release alongside 9TRANE on 1FGRM001 and his track ‘Criminal’; a spiralling dubstep heavy hitter. This latest addition to the 1Forty discography ‘Raw’ is a sign of how far he has come in the last two and a half years since that release as you can hear how he’s refined his signature sound to get his productions club ready for the top tier artists proven by the lengthy support on this record from Sicaria Sound who have been spinning it regularly around the world for the past 6 months.

Growing up listening to a lot of Grime and Dubstep it’s not hard to see the path Hamdi has taken firstly as a producer and secondly as an MC. In the last 12 months the Oxford born producer has gone on to release his own series of freestyle videos entitled ‘Bars’ all of which have amassed tens of thousands of views across socials whilst still having the likes of Novelist, Prez T, Managa, Capo Lee, Coco and a number of other artists regularly spitting over his beats on radio sets. Kobe JT is a name on the UKG scene’s lips and touted as the next best thing to happen by many and its not hard to hear why, receiving support from the likes of UKG legend DJ EZ, as well as Flava D, Sammy Virji, Rinse’s newest figurehead IZCO and the Prince of UKG - Conducta, who also brought him through for Kiwi Hush 2 in 2019. Still only 22 years of age and having worked with the likes of Conducta, MOAD and Logan amongst others and a discography spanning across Downplay (Slime Recordings), Strictly Flava, Wang Records and of course Kiwi Records where the Gloucestershire producer featured on the Kiwi Sound Compilation CD in 2020, he’s already proving to be a hot prospect.

The 22 year old producer has been on 1Forty’s radar for some time, so as soon as the submission came through of Killa P’s ‘Rate Us’, the soulful summer vibes paired with the ragga style meant it was an instant addition to the 1Forty Acapellas EP.

Since Sammy Virji and Smokey Bubblin’ B last appeared on the label in June and April 2019 respectively a hell of a lot has happened within the UK Garage scene. From simmering away in the underground the genre has had new life breathed into it with commercial hits such as AJ Tracy’s ‘Ladbroke Grove’ shining a bright light on the sound once again. Being branded as NUKG (New UK Garage) by Conducta his label Kiwi Records and reputation as an artist has also helped elevate this new era Garage sound to today’s younger generation of listeners. With both Sammy and Smokey appearing on Kiwi with their own EP’s they return to 1Forty for their highly anticipated collab as teased very recently by Conducta in his latest Kiwi Direkt mix, bringing a perfect soundtrack for a summer’s day.

Sammy Virji set one scene alight and helped forge another all in the space of three years and there’s no signs of slowing with an ever growing eclectic discography brimming with energy. Now firmly at the front of UKG and underground UK Bass music as a whole the Oxford born producer is leading the charge of ‘NUKG’ with Conducta and co, whilst still maintaining his relationships with the likes of Chip Butty Records/Rare Supply and 1Forty as well as forging new ones overseas with Barong Family. Smokey Bubblin’ B has made himself one of the most renowned names in the UKG scene after the years of grafting away keeping the sound alive in the underground have come full circle, with the Garage sound now very much on the rise the South London born producer is reaping the rewards for his dedication. Smokey became one of the earliest recruits under Kiwi Records alongside Sammy to help the Prince Of Conducta take NUKG (New UK Garage) to the next level with his Better Run EP. In the last 12 months alone he has signed with Earth Agency and been awarded with a monthly Rinse residency too. Although the last 12 months have been integral to the growth of his reputation, his roots in the underground go much deeper than that with his discography more than holding its own, gaining regular support and friends over the years and from UK Garage day one’s such as DJ EZ, Hatcha, Matt Jam Lamont to name a few.
