German imprint MASK returns in 2021 with yet another inviting anonymous release featuring six raw original cuts. 

The MASK imprint continues to impress with their signature aesthetic which places focus on intricate, modular-based house, techno, and ambient cuts, and everything in between. Their previous releases have garnered strong support from various artists including the likes of Laurent Garnier, DJ Bone, Photonz, Anastasia Kristensen, Marcel Dettmann, and many more, and ‘Knef’ sees the esoteric German imprint deliver yet another impressive collection of tracks to kick start 2021. 

The ‘A1’ gets the EP rolling with muffled drums and enticing moods that sit delicately underneath the soulful, samples and sweeping synths before ‘A2’ offers up resounding kicks that balance delightfully with the reverberating modulations and powerful yet interesting fx. The A3 lays focus on an aquatic house roller with bubbly melodies and dreamy pads with magnetising emotions brimming to the surface. 

On the flip, the ‘B1’ is an engaging cut with breezy resonance and ethereal leads which lure you in from the start whilst the dubby drums, solemn ambience and laid-back moods take focus in the ‘B2’. Rounding things off in experimental fashion, the ‘B3’ is an eccentric meditative, cut with leftfield oscillations and beatless vibrations which blend together with stunning effect.

New Wave Podcast 040: Sahar

Middlesbrough based artist Sahar has certainly earned his stripes as a DJ, having held down a residency for one of the most iconic events in the country RiffRaff, however it is his recent success as a producer which has allowed him to fully announce himself in the scene. His signature deep and progressive sound can give off hypnotic but also euphoric tones, meaning he can fully capture a dancefloor in any setting. With a tireless work ethic, he’s been able to create an endless backlog of music which he is ready to unleash on dancefloors across the country once clubs are fully open. 

His love for electronic music can certainly be accredited to his Dad, who himself was a DJ and more recently a record shop owner. Sahar admits that his Dad gave him an anchor point for his musical taste and prevented me going astray with cheesy trends. Despite not being based in a town which has a thriving nightlife scene, he has still been able to carve out a sound which stays true to his roots and taste. He is also an avid synth and instrument collector which has allowed him to fully maximise his creativity and push the boundaries as a producer. With a string of successful releases on Paradiso and Midnight People, he has gained deserved recognition from some notable figures in the scene; such as Âme, Pete Tong, Johannes Albert and Man Power. 

We recently caught up with Sahar to discuss his love for synths, how his dad influenced his music, if he believes the Middlesbrough nightlife scene has a glass ceiling and how he batch makes music.

Tech Support stands amongst some of the most prolific young DJs and producers out there. Yet despite a vigorous work ethic he still maintains a sense of playfulness in his work, demonstrated by his tongue-in-cheek approach to the DJ lifestyle. We chatted with him over on Instagram about small communities, production tips and musical influences.

Tech Support always finds a groove in everything he touches. Be that through his DJ sets, mixes or his own productions, there's a rhythmic fluidity and depth that always guides his way.

He never confines himself to one sound or style but there's a distinct nod to the 80s in his influences and output; be assured you'll find lashings of Italo, vintage darkwave, euphoric house and slo mo chug when he's behind the decks or laying it down in the studio.

His work rate as a producer has been on the up over the last few years. If he's not sharing his solo work, which has formed releases for Nocturne, Together Alone, Futureboogie, Silver Bear and, most recently Ano Ano, he's crafting his own self-released edits and reworks of legendary new beat, new wave and Italo Disco tracks like 'Burning Down The House', 'Je Suit Passee' and 'Drop The Deal'. Lately he's been making music under another alias, Asa Tate, with a track penned for this year's Rhythm Section SHOUTS compilation.
