Lyrical Strally and Jhuttz first featured on the label back in 2018 with ‘Grime Street’ as the lead track on 1FGRM003, a track that went on to be premiered by Complex, visuals that landed via SB:TV, and although was released at the very end of the year before, was featured in Sir Spyro’s ‘Best Of Grime 2019’ on his 1Xtra show. Throughout 2019 the relationship between artists and label was ever present from the release as well as Travis being part of the 1Forty Takeover on BBC Radio 1 w/ Toddla T. Lyrical Strally went on to join the bill at the 1Forty Manchester Launch in March alongside fellow YGG members PK and DJ Travis T as well as an appearance on Marcus Nasty’s Rinse show that summer. Some six months later another beat from Jhuttz landed in the 1Forty mailbox with a sound of grime very much fitting for a YGG revival after two years since their last release ‘Strikers’, paving the way for ‘Royals’.

PK and Lyrical Strally have formed a formidable trio in YGG alongside Saint P, which earthed a new generation of Grime crew reminiscent of the energy of early Grime culture. 3 distinctive flows originally gaining traction on Radar Radio but going on to control sets on Boiler Room, Just Jam, 1Xtra, NTS and Rinse FM with the help of their DJ - Travis T. Since their breakthrough year in 2015 on AJ Tracy’s ‘Red Bull’ the three MCs have gone on to dominate the Grime scene in the years since.

An official remix for Sir Spyro’s smash hit ‘Side By Side’ in 2016 saw them sign to Logan Sama’s ‘Keepin It Grimey’ Label early in 2017 which their debut EP ‘World Domination’ released through. 2018 saw the trio run ad campaigns with Nike and FootLocker and then sign to Flowdan’s ‘Spent Shell’ where under his management they released their biggest single to date on Astral Black - ‘Strikers’, their last release until now.

Midlands producer Jhuttz was another fresh face on the Label at the time of the ‘Grime Street’ release. Having two productions on that same release (1FGRM003) alongside Ali McK on both, was also his track with K-Dot ‘1Forty Ting’. Since then he has quietly been working away making authentic Grime taking inspiration from old and new posting clips online and sending out dub packs to the big name DJs he’s making sure he’s staying true to the culture while he waited for his next opening on the Label.

Logan is the first of two artists on this release making his second successive Genre Release in a row with himself and Hamdi both making the jump from the latest Funky & Garage Release (1FFNG004, back into their more native 140 realms. ‘Evil Side’ sees Logan team up with 9TRANE for a hard hitting dubstep anthem, following on from one of the UKG hits of the year in ‘Worthwhile’ alongside Murder He Wrote at the end of last year, which smashed its way into Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ editorial playlist on release day as well as Rinse FM’s A-List Playlist over the Christmas period, and receiving a whole host of support across the BBC from Toddla T, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova and more.

2019 really saw Logan come into his own as both an artist and an MC, being picked up for LOTM8 by Jammer paired with a string of high profile releases making him without doubt one of the most versatile names of the next generation. With releases across MoreTime Records, with Kouslin on Durkle Disco and Idris Elba’s ‘Yardie Mixtape’ respectively says all you need to know. There are also honourable mentions for tracks ‘Like Me’ with Treble Clef and ‘Ready Fi Di War’ with Trends both of which gained significant traction across the BBC, Rinse & Reprezent also. Making himself a Grime Originals mainstay and being one of the most active names at Outlook Festival shelling down boat parties and stages alike throughout the week further aided his rise. Then of course Logan rounded off a stellar year with his debut 1Forty release ‘Worthwhile’.

On the buttons is 1Forty’s Grime stalwart 9TRANE, having been part of the Label since Day 1 when he laid down a statement of intent with lead track ‘Compute Riddim’ Ft Killa P & Badness on the debut release when the Label arm was formed - 1FGRM001. ‘Evil Side’ feels like a follow up with the clever use of atmospheric space and hard hitting subs paired with Logan’s ragga type vocal paving the way for a track ready for the darkest of clubs.

Other releases on the Label also show 9TRANE’s unique trademark sound yet versatile approach including ‘Assault’ on 1FGRM002, and ‘Appletize’ which made ripples throughout the scene. Toddla T latched onto the Norwich talent through these releases and has since gained regular support on his show on BBC Radio 1. 1Forty’s flagship producer also tinkered with some UK Funky collabing with Arridim now also known as Criticals' Particle for ‘Plazma’ and the follow up ‘Plazma VIP’ both still receiving regular plays some 18 months later.

Logan - Evil Side (Prod. 9TRANE)

Like Logan, Hamdi is fresh off the back of the last Genre Release (1FFNG004) with his first ever vocal release ‘What You Gonna Do’ which was a vintage UK Funky circa 2008/2009 esqu sounding production from Retrospect complimented by a back and forth vocal between the talented Brighton producer/MC and Razor. Cosigned by the likes of Marcus Nasty and receiving support across Rinse and Reprezent it was widely well received.

Hamdi delivers his first production on the label since the debut 1Forty Release alongside 9TRANE on 1FGRM001 and his track ‘Criminal’; a spiralling dubstep heavy hitter. This latest addition to the 1Forty discography ‘Raw’ is a sign of how far he has come in the last two and a half years since that release as you can hear how he’s refined his signature sound to get his productions club ready for the top tier artists proven by the lengthy support on this record from Sicaria Sound who have been spinning it regularly around the world for the past 6 months.

Growing up listening to a lot of Grime and Dubstep it’s not hard to see the path Hamdi has taken firstly as a producer and secondly as an MC. In the last 12 months the Oxford born producer has gone on to release his own series of freestyle videos entitled ‘Bars’ all of which have amassed tens of thousands of views across socials whilst still having the likes of Novelist, Prez T, Managa, Capo Lee, Coco and a number of other artists regularly spitting over his beats on radio sets. Support has come from the likes of Sir Spyro, Spooky andJack Dat amongst others as well as outside the 140 spectrum from the likes of EZ, My Nu Leng, Flava D, Conducta and more. Only a couple of months ago Hamdi was drawing wheel ups from Plastician on deck alongside Razor on mic and it's not often in this generation you see an artist be as strong with the mic as on the DAW, that being said we may have another Jammz on our hands.

ManGo delivers his first 140 production on the label with ‘XO’, what can only be described as a new school ‘wifey riddim’ with an array of female vocal stabs making the perfect addition to a Grime DJ’s arsenal to switch up any live set with MC’s in toe.

The Bristolian producer has been based in Cardiff the past three years whilst at university. During that time he has embedded himself into the Welsh events scene hosting a number of 140 and UKG orientated events welcoming the likes of Sir Hiss. Throughout that time he’s also had an incredible output on the production side of things, self releasing a number of tracks across the 140 and UKG spectrum as well as via labels such as Project Allout Records. ‘XO’ shows the influence both genres have had on his production style making what you could call softer melodic Grime for his second 1Forty release.
