What better way to heat things up for the return of club season than the first official single of 2022 and the first official Dubstep single for the label. Sketchi makes an appearance on 1Forty for the first time in three years after two successive BSS appearances (1FBSS003/1FBSS004) see’s him return to channel his earlier 140 influences with a record ready to make shockwaves across the dubstep scene.

1Forty has featured a selection of artists on the Label from its home in Leeds and Sketchi is part of those very grassroots. Starting off his journey learning to mix and produce at the age of 14, growing up in the same area of Leeds a musical relationship was born with Mikey B thanks to their shared love for UK Bass music.

Taking inspiration from the early era of Grime and Dubstep along with the artists he follows across the bass music spectrum that have such a strong focus on low end sound design such as My Nu Leng, Taiki Nulight, S.P.Y, Dimension, Joker and Enigma Dubz (the latter two being no surprise here) he serves up ‘Osami’ to announce his return.

1Forty welcomes newcomer Dominus to the label, with another veteran MC - Riko Dan. A record fit for the deepest darkest corners of the UKG rave scene which is the epitome of the sound coming out of the clubs right now.

Born in London and raised in Jersey, Dominus is currently the name on the lips of the underground. With a passion for instruments from a young age, and electronic music as a teen, he began his production journey at 16. He has experimented with various electronic genres over the years to thank for the many influences in his eclectic sound that he’s carved out for himself as a now established name in the UK bass music space.

Successful releases on Strictly Flava and Wang Records inspired him to drop his own independent vinyl EP project ‘Sweet n Sour’ which sold out 300 copies in less than a month. This saw his tracks get picked up by Shall Not Fade and ec2a in the months that followed, the latter a collab with Riko Dan. A whirlwind 2021 and 2022 resulted in support from the pioneers of the UK underground DJ EZ, Skream, Conducta as well as Disclosure which has lead him to seeing the year out linking up with Riko Dan once more on ‘Just Like This’.

Born and raised in London, Riko began MCing at age 15 on Drum and Bass pirate stations. Before long he was rolling with the best of them in Wiley’s Pay As U Go Cartel. When eski clicks replaced breaks and a new generation of South London vocalists took over the pirates, Riko was armed and ready. In the years since he has gone on to be ever present and as versatile as they come with iconic records over the years alongside Pinch & Mumdance, Trends & Boylan, The Bug, Friction, Skream, Foreign Beggars, Y U QT and the list just goes on and on.

Seven years after the first ever release, 1Forty adds the final string to its bow. A format that’s been longly coveted after teasing one off lathe cuts over the years for artists’ keeps sake, and what better way to launch its vinyl format than with 2 staples of the 140 sound on a global scale. Bristol’s Sir Hiss links up with 1Forty OG Hamdi for an eclectic exploration into a Grime influenced Dubstep track resonant of the mid 00’s, where the sounds came to be infused, as artists and labels came together to take Dubstep outside of South London and beyond.

Sir Hiss has made a name for himself as one of the mainstays in the bass music scene. With his innovative and genre-defying sound, he has become known for his ability to seamlessly blend through the whole spectrum of underground dance music in his sets and production.

Beginning his career in Bristol's underground music scene, Sir Hiss quickly gained a reputation for his unique sound and technical prowess. He has since released a string of critically acclaimed projects, such as the seminal 12” cut ‘Danny Uzi Vert’, the anthemic ‘Rolling’ with long-time collaborator Emz, ‘Outsiders Live Forever’ with Roll Deep originator Manga Saint Hilaire and a slew of other releases on Hospital Records, Wych, Trapdoor and more.

In addition to his successful music career, Sir Hiss has also launched his own imprint, ‘No More Mailouts’, a no-fussing, back-to-basics outlet for anything with a thumping great low end. Equally at home cooking up bangers in the studio, or shelling raves behind the decks, Sir Hiss continues to solidify his position as a producer and DJ to watch - closely.

As for Hamdi, he is another that is currently one of the most versatile producers in the scene making a great fit for his coming together with Sir Hiss. Hamdi’s ability to produce a wide range of styles and genres has made him an exciting prospect for any label to get their hands on. Hamdi’s signature blend of UK Garage, Dubstep and Grime has earned him support from some of the biggest artists in the world, including Skrillex, Knife Party, Noisia, Zeds Dead and Porter Robinson. Closer to home, Hamdi has consistently received support from the UK Underground Scene’s most prestigious acts, including DJ EZ, Sir Spyro, Sherelle and Mala. He has also had releases on labels such as Kiwi Rekords, Southpoint, Grottingham and 1Forty and his tracks can regularly be heard on Radio Stations such as BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM and Reprezent.

Hamdi has also become known for his energetic DJ sets that have meant he has already supported many of the scene’s most prestigious artists, including Coki, Holy Goof, Preditah and Sir Spyro.

‘I Swear’ sees the first female vocalist link up with an MC for the first time since Higgo, Dakota Six and Lyrical Strally came together for the UKG smash ‘Clouds’ in 2020 which clocked half a million streams. When a melodic bumpy Garage instrumental landed in the inbox from label regular Burt Cope, it would have been rude not to bring Lyrical Strally back into the fold after such a stellar job first time round. New recruit and hidden gem Amber Elena, the latest find from the 1Forty A&R round up who hones from South East London delivers a memorable top line sure to capture imaginations.

Takeover sees one of the worlds leading vocalists of underground music - Flowdan, step up to the plate alongside label front runner of the past 12 months Dominus. The young producer from Jersey returns for another Single after his ‘Just Like This’ release alongside Riko Dan on 1Forty at the back end of 2022. This time with his dark and intricate sound design infusing Dubstep-esque neuro bass and generative layers that’s weaved through snappy 2-step Garage drums perfectly to make a completely fresh hybrid sound. An instrumental and approach that took Flowdans attention immediately, yet still suited to the ex Roll Deep members output we’ve been accustomed to hearing in recent times. The final product tees up yet another 2023 smash for what has been the most dominant year yet for the Grime MC, turned global superstar.

Raybee returns to the label after a making his debut last summer alongside Rakjay with 'Where The Bar Is'. Following up on his Beatport Top 20 Dubstep charting position, the demos didn't stop coming, with his intricate sound design and thumping low end on show once more, landing him his first 1Forty single '1undred'.

An exciting talent from Brighton, Raybee has been steadily crafting his unique sound since the age of 14 and releasing music since 2017. Although his initial forays into music were grounded in Drum and Bass, his move to Manchester ignited a multi-genre exploration, inspired by figures like Rich Reason and his inclusive brand, Hit and Run.

With a DJ'ing career boasting residencies at prominent venues like Hidden and South in Manchester, as well as shows on the south coast at Concorde 2 and Volks in Brighton, his reach extends to notable festivals like Level 7 and Outlook Origins. He's also graced the stage for brands like Bloc2Bloc, Garage People, Delirium Sessions, and Bass Konnection, and played the free party circuit across France, Morocco, and Albania.

In Manchester, he co-founded The North Bass, booking artists like QZB, Zha, and Jam Thieves. After a pause in DJ'ing due to lockdown, he's channeling his passion for music into tutoring, building a client base through his expansive network.

His music releases have found homes in various labels such as Kali's Illicit, Lost Recordings, 4 Corners, and his own now-discontinued Royal Audio. The latter served as a platform for his music before he decided to focus more on his personal progression and music.

Support for his music comes from various corners, including artists and channels like Sicaria, Breakfake, Ternion Sound, Old Gold, and Deep Tempo, among others. He has also collaborated with artists such as Melinki, Rafiki, and Leks.

Inspired by artists like Sam Binga, Ivy Lab, Fixate, and Deft, his music reflects a dedication to innovation and genre fusion.

For him, the constant evolution and learning that comes with music creation is not a chore but a love. It's his passion for creating something new and interesting that ensures he never remains confined to one genre, marking him as an artist always on the move.

We've decided to give this track away as a big thank you for the continued support on the Council Work sound! After hitting No.1 in both the Juno and Deejay.de UK Garage charts this weekend with our 3rd release, the Militant EP, we thought that it would be a good thank you to every who's been supporting the label. The Prodigy have been a huge influence on us and on the whole dance music scene in general, this has always been such a massive track to both of us, we always wanted to have our own edit to play out when the time was right. We initially hoped to be playing this edit in our sets at gigs we had been booked for recently, but as that is unfortunately not possible right now, we'd still like you guys to be able to enjoy it!
