Originally from Leicester Wibbly started producing at the age of 15 after being in a band through his youth. It wasn’t until the age of 19 after studying music technology he really began to get a feel for building a track from top to bottom. His main influence is UKG but does take from Grime and Dubstep as well after building his vinyl collection across the 3 genres. 

2018 was the year he started to get some self released material out as well as a bootleg of ‘The Calling’ which he received glowing feedback from  Chris Lorenzo and Chris Lake at the time. ‘Vessel’ was one of his first original tracks which really set the foundations for his sound. Support has come from the likes of Jack Junior up to now on his other tracks but with ‘Distant’ being his first official release and the ‘4 Weeks Of 1Forty’ shining the spotlight on some hidden gems this release will provide the platform to push on. 

This has been Wibbly’s first time working with a vocalist, and what better way to get off the mark than with Dakota Sixx. An unsigned vocalist and songwriter originally haling from Birmingham. Shortly after relocating to London four years ago, Dakota released her first solo project ‘Innocence’ which received support from BBC 1Xtra, Nest HQ, Mixmag and Complex. 

Since the success of her first project, Dakota has released music through labels such as Second To None Music, The Sound of Everything, 877 Records, BRØKEN, Saucy Records and now 1Forty. Dakota’s previous releases have also received support from DJ Q, Jamz Supernova, Marcus Nasty and many more!

In 2018, Dakota appeared on tracks for artists such as Star.One, Capo Lee, Affiliate and Mind of a Dragon. Whilst there are many more exciting collaborations lined up for 2019, Dakota’s main focus for this year will be on solo projects that showcase her broader taste in songwriting and genres.

In the sunny sides of Bristol, we have seen a complete musical explosion over the past few years, as new producers and projects seem to be popping up left right and centre to deliver quality bangers to fans of bass music worldwide. Given the cities incredibly rich musical history, it's hardly a surprise that the legacy continues to reign supreme throughout a 2020 filled with emotion to say the least.

Today we are heading over to one of our favourite newer imprints as we join Sherry S & Fish, bass's favourite couple, as they unveil the latest drop from the rapidly expanding Cocobolo Sound imprint, following on from a heaped stack of top notch originals. This latest outing, sees them draw together the vocal power of the ever-ready Juma and production prowess of the super consistent Fork & Knife for a certified slap.




The original track 'Pattern It' is an instant roller. It's a bubbler, dynamite for any DJ who is looking to inject an additional dash of energy into their selection mid-rave, with Juma's extremely catchy vocal hooks bringing an extra layer of life to Fork & Knife's incredible slick arrangement below. It doesn't stop there however as the release also comes complete with a tasty remix helping from man of the minute: MPH.Despite the garage-like feelings that can be found within the original, MPH takes the composition to a whole new 2-stepping level, with an array of typically vibrant chord structures and basslines to match. Following a cracking launch EP that showcase their carefully-selected, finely-tuned roster in all it’s glory, exciting UKG startup Steppers Club return with their next celebrated, vintage tinge of nu-skool Garage hedonism. That first acclaimed VA offering, entitled First Steps, which featured label stalwarts Sensa, Oppidan, Minista, Sam Deeley and head-honcho Zefer, saw a metric tonne of support from across the underground, with premieres from us here at On The Wax, a track host from our friends over at The 3000 Network, an exclusive Instagram interview and feature with the guys over at Bass Hive and an in-depth appearance on Meltout Crew’s Reprezent Radio show. All in all, a stellar, groove-infused showing from an incredibly solid, norm-defying platform that’s still very much in its infancy.

Now, and epitomising everything we love about the current UKG revival, label boss Zefer presents his debut 2-tracker, returning to the fold after a slew of sick recent releases, the most recent of which was the locked, stocked and smoking ‘Praise Ya’ drop on Beastwang, who they themselves have overwhelmingly cemented their stance as a real platform to watch, serving up seriously special cuts from the likes of Champion, MPH, Tenshu, Earthnut, Kobe JT, Higgo, Zero and plenty more. 

As its basis, this new 2-track offering from the Steppers Club bossman is uplifting, inherently joyful, sunshine-etched and positively teeming with refined musicality, all facets we instantly look for from both artist and label. Wonderfully adept at working with both original vocalists and carefully-selected, pinpoint samples, the first track sees Zefer utilise the simply gorgeous, velvet vocals of Charlotte Meldrum on ‘Let Me Know’, a 4x4 NUKG lick that provides a sharp glance in that vintage back-mirror, whilst also hammering down that modern aesthetic. It’s stunning writing all round, from both Zefer and Meldrum, with all that flittering, patterned instrumentation providing a gleeful backdrop for the vocals to go to town on.  Has UKG ever sounded so good?

The B-side, ‘Sugar N’ Spice’, is slightly more dancefloor-focused, but it still retains every bit of rhythm, artistic prowess and gilded marksmanship of the aforementioned first track, and we’re delighted to be exclusively hosting it here at OTW. Whereas Meldrum’s vocal hooks take centre-stage on ‘Let Me Know’, Zefer’s keen ear for sampling allows his mesmerising production to full roll out here, experimenting with a plethora of instruments and percs, showcasing his funky aptitude in all its glory. Overall, another stellar showing from both Steppers Club and Zefer - long may it continue.
