It is only natural and consistent for Pete Josef to release his debut album on Berlin based label Sonar Kollektiv, since it is the very same imprint he has been featured on in numerous productions over the last three years – as a singer and as a songwriter.  The close link with Sonar Kollektiv took it's course when in autumn 2012 label manager Oliver Glage signed “Make It Good” by The White Lamp (Josef's project together with Ex-Underworld member Darren Emerson), for the label.  From there, he has made contributions to Alex Barck's album “Reunion”, to tracks with Paskal & Urban Absolutes and Marlow, and to “Broken Connection” off the debut album by ComixXx released just recently.  

The young Brit, inspired over the years by such collaborations, and socialized in the lively Bristol scene, has come up with an 11-track strong masterpiece of modern pop music.  In the opening track, “Spring At Last”, he and singer Marie Lister, accompanied by Justin “Captain” Fellow's industrious drumming and a host of Bristol String and Horn players, praise the thrill of anticipation of all the things to come.  For instance, a powerful pinch of dance grooves and soul/Jazz elements – always connected to the here and now without making any retro references at any point along the course.

“Mistress”, with screaming guitars and yet more powerful horn arrangements, reminiscent of Donny Hathaway’s “Voices Inside”, could almost be a new Stevie Wonder record.  In “Move On” Josef's Jazzpop turns Country-Ska, most notably thanks to his West African style claw-hammer guitar playing and some inspired drumming from Greg Freeman.  And on “Night Gospel” it is the piano that surfaces, over a lilting programmed, club-compliant beat.  Variety is guaranteed in every respect.. “Live Your Life” is a downright Afro-Jazz anthem complete with scat singing, off-beat double bass from Roshan ‘Tosh’ Wijetunge, and the mantra-like repeated chorus: “live your life, live it well”.  Whilst the Neo-Soul ambience of Running in series and Many Signs lament lost and broken love, new love is later expressed clearly as Josef carols.. “feeling the new; feeling cupids smile descend” on the buoyant, summery “Something Good”. 

The production of “The Travelling Song” has just a hint of the legendary Steely Dan productions, albeit with a modern almost hip-hop slant, and builds to put the listener into a firmly euphoric space with a Samba-funk rhythm section crafted by the virtuoso percussionist Rory Francis.  In short, “Colour” is every shade of the rainbow, from bright light, to contemplative dark.  “Hope” has all the colours in one, with lyrical positivity set against almost mournful Afrobeat ballad accompanied.  It is a setting of the poem by Emily Dickinson (“hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul”), and features a glorious improvised solo by free-Jazz trumpeter, Nick Malcolm; in which he virtually embodies the bird described in the verse through his fluttering expressive melodies.  In closing, as the album's finale, we are treated to the title track “Colour” ..and it is here where Pete Josef reveals where much of his inspiration, his optimism and his balance of mind springs from: it is his love of nature, in all it’s wondrous colour that is subtly expressed throughout his music.  Therefore not only the song “Colour”, but the whole album is de facto an ode to nature, together with the shades of emotion we all experience in our lives.  No surprise here then that Mr. Josef recently settled in a cottage in rural Somerset amid forests, meadows, and close to the natural world he loves so much.

An interest in ancestral Latin American cosmology has always run right through the music of Ecuadorian music producer Nicola Cruz. His creative process involves an attentive, careful search for the living roots and rituals that are part of South American identity—its Andean and African origins in particular—valuing its rhythms, its oral traditions, its instruments and the energy they transmit. His first record, Prender el Alma (2015) explored the development of the consciousness and spirituality, and how they connect with music. In Siku, his most recent production, Cruz continues this exploration, expanding his vision towards new stories and other cultures as sources of inspiration. A crucial aspect on this journey is his collaboration with other artists from around the world.

The siku is a wind instrument of Andean origin, highly symbolic in ancestral rituals, made up of two separate, complementary parts, the arca and the ira. It is a representation of duality, an essential element of the indigenous world view, associated with involvement and complementarity, far from the binary thinking typical of western societies. That duality is reflected on this record in the coming together of sounds, whether electronic or organic, past or present, local or global. On Siku, Nicola Cruz combines instruments with symbolic, spiritual connotations, such as the sitar, the siku, and the balafon with hints of electronica. Studies of the samba, cumbia and rhythms of African, Andean and Hindu origin are combined with Cruz’s characteristically unpredictable, mystical style.

'' It all began in Afrika, but this track was actually made on two cold winter nights at the Positive Reality studio in Ljubljana (Slovenia). 
It's a story of coincidences and love between two people but also the love of music and brotherhood. Haris and Al felt in love the first time they meet, it was in the summer of 2016 at the Goulash Disco festival and an idea of maybe producing something together one day was born. Then Al meet a beautiful girl from Slovenia and decided to go visit her in the fall of 2016. And when in Slovenia he reached out to Haris to spend a few nights at the comfort of his studio to see where the music would take them. And as you can hear it took them to Afrika and beyond following the footsteps of dubby baselines and funky beats. They had a feeling something was missing so they ask their friend Nej Supan to came by to add some trumpet recordings for the dynamic duo to process in their Samplistic manner. Then, the story continues because the track was laying in the hard drive for two years plus, until one week before release Al finally thought that the upcoming COSMOVISION release could be the right place to let the public finally have access to this hidden gem. Mr Don Mescal was delighted with the vibe of the track and things moved quickly as they can nowadays in the digital age. 
One week later the track was released via the bandcamp, after passing thru the capable hands of Nathan Hall on the mastering

Cosmovision Records presents ¨Elements of These Lands¨

We started as a group of music producers in Montréal, immigrants from Latin America, Europe and friends from Canada, we wanted to reinterpret the elements of this land, from North America such as: nature, native cultures, artistic forms and others. This woke a great interest from artists from all over the world, thing that finally lead to our compilation ¨Element of These Lands¨, in plural, adding a big tribe of friends from all over the world which today are part of our artistic essence, a multi cultural collective.

Our proposal is to make music that evokes respect and consciousness about nature, which understand our cultural differences as a great value for us. We look to go beyond the act of pushing buttons to create digital music, on the other side, we want to inspire ourselves as a collective and invite to reflect about the elements of our land, elements that sometimes western culture forgets, but through art we can analyze, reinterpret and value.

Our first compilation has cultural influences from: Canada, Mexico, France, Chile, Turkey, Belgium, Colombia, Lebanon, Switzerland, Italy and Argentina. 
We want to thank all the producers evolved in this compilation and our artist Mathieu Bories, visual genius of our collective; also everyone who have believed in us and never forgetting you, the people who download and share these voices which are echoes from the land itself, that through artists sing to us to generate awareness of our roots and the elements of our land.

"Ramas" (branches in Spanish) is El Búho’s third album of original material and stands for a celebration of the art of collaboration. Featuring 19 collaborations with artists from 12 countries, the album was born organically out of collaborations, mutual appreciation or a desire to experiment and try something new. 

Some of the tracks were started in person, such as "Sky City", born out of a spaghetti-western jam in Thornato’s Queens studio or "Gaviota" inspired by the the seagulls of Brighton following a shared show with Rumbo Tumba in the city. Meanwhile others such as "Elefta" with Hungarian producer Stas or "Kuuma" a track made with Finnish multi-instrumentalist QOSQI were created over long-distance with the producers never actually meeting face to face. The album also contains tracks from long-term friends and collaborators like Chancha Via Circuito, Barda and Wonderwheel head-honcho Nickodemus. 

Musically the album references the blend of Latin American traditional music with original electronic music on tracks such as "Resiliencia" with legendary Chilean producer DJ Raff, an homage to the recent protest movement in Chile, or "Absolut," a track sculpted from an unfinished melodic idea by Argentine electro-folk trio Tremor. Meanwhile songs like "Nevar" and "Kif Kif Kuf Kuf" with Didacte and Kraut, both part of the Shika Shika collective, take El Búho’s sound in a new direction, embracing a more melodic or impactful and rhythmic electronica. 

At its heart of "Ramas" was Perkins’ desire to challenge himself creatively, forcing him to see his own ideas and production style from a different angle or see ideas started in one direction come back completely transformed by the collaborator. The result is at once surprising and diverse but El Búho’s signature sound and aesthetic is the thread that runs through all of the tracks, the trunk to each branch. 

Carrying on the spirit of collaboration, El Búho made an open call for collaborations with dancers & choreographers in his community. Overwhelmed by the response, the album is accompanied by 18 original choreographies by dancers and dance groups from 12 different countries, from Mexico to Taiwan, South Africa or the Galapagos Islands. Each chose the track that most inspired them and shot a video of their dance in a unique and beautiful natural location, in doing so creating yet more ramas or branches for the project.
