A collection of 38 headlines, symbolising her age chronologically, Linings in my Head is utilising headlines taken from the main newspaper in Singapore. Sharmeen/Sifar used the keyword ‘Indian’, to research these headlines and is inspired by the Rangoli patterns of her heritage to feature these headlines aesthetically and also prominently. This work serves as a memory project for her artistic growth.

Linings in my Head

Storytelling has been an artery of Sharmeen/Sifar’s practice for the last 18 years. She has used various mediums to communicate her thoughts and styles, with video being her oft-used tool.
She puts her camerawork and editing skills towards collaborating with the artistic community in Singapore in hopes of visually presenting lesser-known truths.
Topics of social urgencies, such as natural history and overlooked societal lived experiences are a driving force for her to coalesce and present her current works.
Her latest endeavours are organising a long-term community engagement program with Freedom Film Festival Singapore, and a collaborative video project, with artist Tan Biyun about the last street vendors of Singapore. 
She also enjoys presenting mixed-media installations to diversify her disciplines.
