There aren't many rappers walking the real Edgewood streets of East Atlanta's Zone 6. The real vs fake debate can be made for most of today's artists, not just trendsetting ATLiens, but rappers from every region have to deal with authenticity issues. In walks VL Deck, a self-described Section 8 resident. So project gutter that labels wouldn't consider signing the young kid whose initials stand for Vicious Living (the Deck is a street name he's had since diapers). After being brushed off and looked over by so many, the perpetual underdog with the raspy southern voice named his self-financed imprint S8Ent. Willing himself to succeed, VL Deck found his tone, and began to speak to the people in a way that resonated. Armed with the voice of a baptist preacher and the vernaclar of a geechie red dirt georgia native, Deck's verses became sermons; and the congregration grew rapidly. Remaining consistent "on both sides" has led to collaborations with Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage & others; a great boost to streaming numbers, but not celebrated due to the loss of his brother to street violence. The pain was a blow that affected everything around VL Deck. Yet he worked through that fog to emerge triumphant. With red tape slowing down the release of breakout project "BJ4L", VL pulls out a few jewels from his current sessions for an exclusive release with datpiff. This 6 song EP is a masterpiece for its niche. Passionate and agressive. Celebratory & retrospective. Project Music Volume 1 speaks to the heart of the hardcore street rap fan.
