with John Tejada, dj, musician, artist. I respect his ability to keep himself relevant since the early 90s. He is a Vienna-born, Los Angeles-based electronic music composer, DJ, and professor at CalArts. Tejada’s professional output of music began in 1994 and has never let up, including five albums for the revered label Kompakt, plus releases on Pokerflat, Cocoon, Plug Research, Seventh City, Playhouse, Defected, and his own label since 1996, Palette Recordings. Tejada has also been responsible for remixing over 100 songs for acts including The Postal Service, Télépopmusic, The Field, Bomb The Bass, Way Out West, Kevin Saunderson, Darren Emerson, Gui Boratto, Simian Mobile Disco and many others. Tejada’s latest venture as Wajatta is a musical collaboration with international star Reggie Watts, having released their debut album, Casual High Technology, in 2018 and Don’t Let Get You Down in 2020 on Brainfeeder. 

Tejada has traveled to more than 30 countries DJing and performing live at clubs—Berghain (Berlin), Fabric (London), Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo)—festivals such as Dance Valley (Netherlands), Decibel Festival (Seattle), Dekmantel Festival (Amsterdam), Detroit Electronic Music Festival (aka Movement), Mutek (Montreal and Mexico), Sonar Festival (Spain and Tokyo) and Sync Festival (Greece), as well as esteemed venues such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and twice at Walt Disney Concert Hall, both in Los Angeles.

Well ladies and gentlemen… we have been uploading mixes on https://soundcloud.com/2000undergroundmusic since about 2013, specialising in 2000-era gems. It all started with https://soundcloud.com/s_w_z_k/swayzak-set-3-of-3-groovetech.

What we have here, is something really really special… I am talking about the pinnacle and excellence of the industry and profession. Probably 1 of the best nights on the West Coast in San Francisco in 1999… The way the mix builds, DJ after DJ, it is relentless, on and on and on, the quality of the 1999-era house. Then into the introduction of Swayzak’s live mix using large hardware samplers, this is super special! You heard it here 1st. I have been listening to it for 20 years and you will still be in 20 years time, that is 40 years after it was made… The golden era, total perfection, a total masterpiece (worthy of academic study and investigation) and a miracle it exists once again. Here is the remedy to Covid-19 and the worldwide mess. It is going to work you up and shack you down, wow, come on! Big, big stuff! It really hurts this 1!!!

Anyway, I’m dedicating it to my amazing unique Uncle Pete… RIP.. who’s funeral was just the other day and I could not attend due to this shit show sandwich we’re all in right now. It’s  little deep, a little Jazzy.. but I think Uncle Pete would have approved in parts.. he was a proper dude and we’ll miss him very very much! Dedicated to the Greatest Uncle in the world….
