Ban Lei was born in Shanghai in 1990. Sound artists and performers.
His works represent his cognition of himself and everything in each period, as well as his state of mind in each stage. They use different forms and methods to describe the slow- moving self. The background of learning classical music makes his works maintain a relatively solid frame of thinking. To break this mindset, he began studying technology and trying to use its solutions to solve problems that had not yet occurred.
Ban’s portfolio includes experimental music, sound interaction, and performance. Technology could give him the ability to create tools.
Technology has been given so much responsibility these days that it is no longer pure.
In 2018, ban lei began to touch the energy brought by his limbs. The reappearance of these energies cast doubt on his past creations. At the same time, he began to find a balance between reality and the virtual, or between nature and Numbers. In the same year, ban lei created Resonance.
Resonance is a gesture instrument that controls the interface with a finger instead of a limb. In one year, ban lei and Resonance attended nearly 40 performances together. These experiences are like a kind of growth for them, a process. They can feel the real feedback from the audience, the environment and the time together, sometimes moved and even happy, sometimes lost and even sad.
All of these, is a kind of memory. Like the melody, healing his soul.
