For the recording, I step-sequenced the song's basic melody in the S-1, and saved it in five different variations, allowing me to move between them easily, preserving my original takes and modifying others, while performing.

On the Teenage Engineering EP-133 KO II, I put together drum beats across eight scenes to add dynamic movement to the track. Variations support the build-ups of the verse and chorus. The live performance was recorded in Ableton through Focusrite Scarlett, where I applied a few minimal effects to enhance the final sound (listed below).

Daft Punk - Within | Roland S-1 & EP-133 KO II (Live Cover)

I used the Roland AIRA S-1 as an instrument to record this 5-part music idea with the built-in step sequencer. (I call it "Notes").

The recording was done directly through the S-1’s USB-C output, with no additional audio interface involved. To enhance the mix, I ran the recording through Ableton with some plugins for mastering on the fly.

🎼 Sound Design & Performance
I built the main sequence in step mode and created five additional variations, including a darker, lower octave variation, higher-pitched versions for extra dynamic range, and overdubbed the patterns & effects here and there.

🔊 Dual Audio Setup for Stereo Mixing
This time I used both the USB-C and the audio output of the Roland S-1 to send two channels into Ableton Live. The USB-C carried a pure digital signal directly into the computer, while the audio output was routed into a Focusrite audio interface, which was also connected to the computer. On my Mac’s Audio MIDI Setup, I created an Aggregated Device, linking both input sources so they could be recorded simultaneously and mixed into a stereo track.
