Taylornuri is an open-format DJ, music curator and social strategist based in Brooklyn, NY. Drawing from her roots in playlist curation, she crafts sets that are a testament to her eclectic background, ranging from the soulful rhythms of funk and R&B to the energetic beats of hip-hop and bounce, spanning countless regions and eras. In her work as a DJ and the music curator for the Black-owned Brooklyn Heights-based brand Cloudy Donuts, Taylornuri brings her unique touch of buttery smooth transitions and unexpected selections to the forefront of every project she creates.

What was the inspiration for your mix?

Summertime! It’s my favorite season so I wanted to make something that represents what summer feels like and means to me. There's a slight nostalgic feel with some early 2000’s deep cuts. You’ll hear some of my favorite genres like NOLA bounce, which just reminds me of my childhood. I'm from Milwaukee, and Milwaukee rap often uses beats heavily influenced by NOLA bounce, with stuff like claps on the eighth notes and heavy bass. I’ve sprinkled in some fun edits I’ve recently tapped into and of course there are some pieces of NY in there among a few other surprises. It’s an interesting listening journey, but hopefully a fun one!
