Sheikh Mishary begins the recitation with a more relaxed melody, but then at 23 minutes (verse 74) his recitation becomes spiritually intense, firmly grasping the heart and touching the very soul of the listener.

Surah Baqarah has numerous benefits. The theme of the Surah is mainly divided into two parts: 1) Bani Israel - The people Moses (as) was sent to, who are today called Jews  2) Pillars of Islam and Iman (faith and theology). Thus it provides much guidance on how the Jews strayed from divine guidance, simultaneously shedding light upon how this predicament should be rectified as well as what the consequences are of not doing so. This is naturally most pertinent to Muslims as the blessed Prophet (pbuh) said that his nation will most resemble the jews, i.e. they will know the truth but will rebel against it. Therefore the longest surah in the Quran is perfectly applicable to the previous nations and the Muslims as well as all the other peoples of today also.

Below are ahadeeth emphasising the significance of the Surah which is placed second in the Noble Quran:

Abu Hurairah (ra) reported the Messenger (saw) of God to have said, "Do not make your houses graveyards. The devil flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." from Sahih Muslim

It is reported from ‘Uqbah Ibn ‘Amir Al-Juhani (ra) that that Messenger (saw) of God said: “Recite the last two verses from Surat Al-Baqarah, for I was given them from a treasure trove beneath the Throne (Arsh).” (Ahmad)

It is reported on the authority of Ibn Masud (ra) that the Messenger (saw) of God said: “Whoever recited the last two verses of Suratul Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.” Al-Bukhari

Hasan ibn Ali (ra) narrates that Messenger (saw) of God stated: "He who recites Ayatul Kursi (verse 255) after obligatory prayers, is in the protection of God til the next prayer." from Tabarani, Majma uz-Zuwaid

It is reported on the authority of Ali (ra) that he said: “I do not consider it fitting for anyone who has understood Islam to sleep (at night) until he has recited Ayatul Kursi and the ending of Surat Al-Baqarah, for they are a gift to your Prophet (saw) from the treasure which lies beneath the Throne.” (Narrated by Ibn Mardawaih)

An authentic or Sahih Hadith says that Imam Ahmad (ra) recorded that Ubayy bin Ka`b (ra) said that; the Prophet (saw) asked him about the greatest Ayah in the Book of God, and Ubayy (ra) answered, "God and His Messenger know best. When the Prophet (saw) repeated his question several times, Ubayy (ra) said, "Ayat Al-Kursi (v255). The Prophet (saw) commented, 'Congratulations for having knowledge, O Abu Al-Mundhir! By He in Whose Hand is my soul! This Ayah has a tongue and two lips with which she praises the King (Allah) next to the leg of the Throne. Another authentic Hadith says that the Messenger of God (Sallallahu 'Alayhe Wasallam ) said : “Whoever recites Aaayat ul-Kursi (V255) immediately after each prescribed Prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death.” [Narrated by an-Nasaaee. Imaam Al-Albaanee authenticated it in Saheeh al Jam i as-Sagheer : 6464] [4]
