Orchestral Work centered around the figure of Melquíades, the mystic gypsy in Gabriel García Márquez's epic "One Hundred Years of Solitude." This is the first movement, titled "Melquíades, the Gypsies and Ice." It begins as though we are opening the pages of a magical book, and very gradually, the music of the gypsies and their band emerges in a subtle kind of dance. About two thirds of the way into the piece, we witness the moment when José Arcadio Buendía takes his two sons to see the ice. When he touches it, he is mesmerized and amazed by the feeling of hot and cold. The music depicts this instant and Buendía's consequent wonder at this magical object.

This recording comes from the premiere by the Orquesta Sinfónica de San Juan, Argentina under the baton of Maestro Emmanuel Siffert.

"Light Within" is a short concert work for organ written during the Fall of 2014 in Northfield, MN. The piece is effectively an advanced level organ work, as well as the original sketches for a band piece, which will have its premiere performance in Dec. of 2015. The piece explores the ideas of transcendence and unification, and functionally can be used as a prelude to a church service without stepping over explicit theological bounds, but can also be used in secular contexts. The piece is an homage to the great transcendent force which unites all people through the miracle of life. It is effectively a love song.

Specific thanks goes to Prof. Jamie Bobb for being an unequivocal champion of the piece, giving several performances around the upper Midwest.
