I've been meaning to record a set highlighting East Asian artists for some time (specifically Korean and Japanese). Hope you enjoy it (particularly before a trip overseas).

I've started with a pair of artists who I feel represent the new generation of musical artists currently out there and what to expect down the road. With roots based in a motherland (i.e. Korea), Peggy Gou (@peggygou)and Yaeji (@kraejiyaeji aka Kathy Lee) both heightened their sound and talent with influences and experiences acquired living abroad. Although gender should not come into play when discussing music, it is refreshing to see Female artists balance the ratio in an industry that is typically heavier on Male representation.

The set then gradually moves onto difference artists from different time periods or various genres. Kan Sano's (@kan-sano) "My Girl" is a silky smooth jazz influenced piece, Little Tempo's "Taste of Tea" (featured in the self titled movie)has a Reggae tempo and sound, Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love" is a well known new wave song and Happy End's "Kaze Wo Atsumete" wraps things up (song always reminds me of my Japan Trip).

For those unfamiliar with "new wave" (i.e. Plastic Love), during the peak economic boom Japan had experienced during the early 70s/80s, this was the type of music being made for those embracing a new cosmo/city lifestyle. Some also refer to this sound as Japanese City Pop (a fusion of synth pop, disco, jazz). Something to think about when listening to the songs later in the set.
