Imagine that you're still living in the 60's, and you're listening to a good track of Jamaican music coming from two speakers just outside an alcohol store in Kingston. The notes from the piano, lightly caressed, are combined with the kalimba rhythm; a bass encompasses these sounds and, among them, a sweet voice singing of life and love, but yet giving you a hint of all the sorrow hidden behind its words. Well, that voice coming from a scratchy 45s could have easily been COURTNEY JOHN's, one of those artists who seem to be coming from a Jamaica now distant in time, a rare talent with a sensational feeling for singing.
Courtney grew up under the wing of Beres Hammond, his uncle and pillar of the upbeat music, but he doesn't seem to be affected by this connection at all. Actually, since he didn't want to be a carbon copy of such a great example, he found his own style and he began to build his own place in the world of music quite early in his life. The singer, born in Annotto Bay, St Mary, in fact, wrote his first piece at age 12, walking then through the doors of music now wide open for him.
Born To Fly is now just a little tribute fom YAGAYAGA to the great voice of this young artist, who despite his age has already recorded for some of the most important Jamaican labels such as: X-Terminator, Taxi and Fat Eyes, and is now ready to take flight, after the excellent feedback he received with his 2007's album, "Unselfish". 12 tracks, mixed by one of the most representative Roman sounds to introduce you and let you enjoy this voice that deserves all our attention and ears.

Immaginate di essere negli anni 60, di ascoltare un buon pezzo di musica jamaicana uscire fuori da due casse poste appena fuori un negozio di alcolici della Kingston di allora. 
I tasti del pianoforte appena sfiorati accomoagnati dal ritmo della kalimba, il basso che abbraccia tutti questi suoni tra i quali spicca una voce dolce che canta la vita, l'amore, ma che tra la sue parole nasconde sofferenza. 
Quella voce proveniente da un 45 giri gracchiante sarebbe potuta tranquillamente essere quella di COURTNEY JOHN. 
Uno di quegli artisti che sembrano provenire da una Jamaica ormai lontana nel tempo, un talento raro ed un feeling sensazionale per il canto. 
Courtney è cresciuto sotto l'ombra dello zio Beres Hammond, un pilastro della musica in levare, ma di questa connessione non sembra minimamente risentirne.
Senza voler risultare una copia carbone di un grande esempio ha trovato il suo stile ed ha cominciando a ritagliarsi il suo spazio nel mondo della musica, arte che ha aperto le sue porte al cantante nato ad Annotto Bay, St Mary già a 12 anni, età in cui scrisse il suo primo pezzo.

"Love is Contagious" is our response to the isolation we are going through at the moment. On one hand, we had to find occupation for oursleves in the times of no live shows; on the other hand, we didn't want to go live from our living rooms every couple of days to play random selection. We wanted something that would help you go through those difficult times in good spirits. We decided that love is the way to go! Since you can't go out and socialize with your friends you better stay home and socialize with your partner. So stay home and infect each other with love instead of going out and contracting Corona! Thanks to that we will hopefully meet in 9 months and have a reason to drink together lol. So, check it out and spread love!

Love Is Contagious Mixtape [2020]

On Friday, 17th of April  1987, Carlton Barrett, the most brilliant drummer out of Jamaica, was murdered.

His iconic #Groove is well known from Bob Marley's albums.
No one before, after him played Reggae the same way.  We was a true master of the instrument and genre 💎.
 
Bob Marley's albums would not be what they are without his characteristic style.
Hundreds of drummers in the world are copying, his sound, and style until this day. It is widely accepted that so-called One Drop rhythm came from his style of playing. 

I have always loved his amazing style, being attentive listener I tried to note all those unobvious songs in which Carly played with his brother Aston.

Over time, I developed a really nice selection of tunes which I mixed tothether and today want to share with the world 🌍.

You will hear brilliant vocalists such as Leroy Sibbles & The Heptones, Junior Delgado, Yabby You, Hugh Mundell, Jacob Miller, Pat Kelly, Horace Andy, Cornell Campbell, naturally original Wailers singing  solo, dubs from King Tubby and Augustus Pablo and many others .

A set of real heroes of Reggae music, who in my opinion are backed  by the best rhythm section in Jamaica's history.
