Inspired by their world travels, and a desire to bring back a piece of every musical culture they encounter, KMLN 's 2nd release on Sol*Selectas, the "Sabilu EP" is 2 original tracks written and recorded in Indonesia, and Mexico. "Sabilu" features the vocals of Javanese jazz singer Mian Meuthia, now living in Bali, and original field recordings of jewelry, sticks, shakers, and traditional Gamelon music. The Indonesian lyrics speak about the love that exists in all humans, and that even though we all strive to be different, we are one in the same. "Gitamato" is a reinterpretation of the roots of Flamenco music, historically imported by the Spanish into Mexico. The spirit of gypsy wanderers is still alive and strong felt in Mexico, particularly in the town of Tulum - where a genuine sense of ancient magic can literally be felt in the air. In this song KMLN has recorded live the guitars, claps, shakers, synths, snares, and bell sounds. For the remix of "Sabilu", we have enlisted the stellar work of Mira & Christopher Schwarzwalder from Berlin, whose residencies at Bar 25, and now Katerblau, have made them underground legends. Their remix strips back the original, taking us on a slower even deeper hypnotic journey - while retaining the original message of human love and respect for all, within the lyrics. The final remix of "Sabilu" comes from new producer Schon Long, whose entry into our Shambhala Music Festival / Sol Selectas remix competition earlier this summer, was the stand out winner. Creatively playing on the pitch of the vocals, and adding the grooviest bass line we've heard in a long time, his remix submission was hands down the victor out of over 50 entries. 
The artwork by Helia Jamali captures the feminine energy and message of oneness in "Sabilu", represented here by the deep red orange Indonesian flower with goddesses dancing around its essence.

2DIY4 („to die for“, the sublabel of Diynamic Music) is embarking onto a new journey. With this next release 2DIY4 is starting a new chapter in its history, turning away from the classic 4/4 House formula and towards new, outstanding and sincere Indie Downtempo Electronica music.

With a highly artistic approach, it aims to paint a holistic picture that shapes its identity with all inherent components - sonic and visual. The golden thread that runs through it all is the question “what would you die for?” – creatively replied to by the artists.

The first artist under the label’s new identity is Lunar Plane, consisting of identical twin brothers Emre and Mert from Istanbul. They answered: “We would die for each other, so the first thing comes to mind is twinhood.” Together with LA-based October’s Child on the vocals, they deliver the first of many chilling Electronica EPs for 2DIY4.

"The existence, the physical universe is basically playful. There is no necessity for it whatsoever. It isn’t going anywhere. That is to say, it doesn’t have some destination that it ought to arrive at. 

But it is best understood by analogy with music, because music, as an art form is essentially playful. We say, “You play the piano.” You don’t work the piano.

Why? Music differs from, say, travel. When you travel, you are trying to get somewhere. In music, though, one doesn’t make the end of the composition the point of the composition. If that were so, the best conductors would be those who played fastest. And there would be composers who only wrote finales. People would go to a concert just to hear one crackling chord… because that’s the end!

Same way with dancing. You don’t aim at a particular spot in the room because that’s where you will arrive. The whole point of the dancing is the dance.

But we don’t see that as something brought by our education into our conduct. We have a system of schooling which gives a completely different impression. It’s all graded and what we do is put the child into the corridor of this grade system with a kind of, “Come on kitty, kitty.” And you go to kindergarten and that’s a great thing because when you finish that you get into first grade. Then, “Come on” first grade leads to second grade and so on. And then you get out of grade school and you got high school. It’s revving up, the thing is coming, then you’re going to go to college… Then you’ve got graduate school, and when you’re through with graduate school you go out to join the world.

Then you get into some racket where you’re selling insurance. And they’ve got that quota to make, and you’re gonna make that. And all the time that thing is coming – It’s coming, it’s coming, that great thing. The success you’re working for.

Then you wake up one day about 40 years old and you say, “My God, I’ve arrived. I’m there.” And you don’t feel very different from what you’ve always felt.

Look at the people who live to retire; to put those savings away. And then when they’re 65 they don’t have any energy left. They’re more or less impotent. And they go and rot in some, old peoples, senior citizens community. Because we simply cheated ourselves the whole way down the line.

Because we thought of life by analogy with a journey, with a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at that end, and the thing was to get to that thing at that end. Success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you’re dead.

But we missed the point the whole way along.

It was a musical thing, and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played."

Seth Schwarz teamed up with his funky fellow Be Svendsen, and together they created something that has the same UV index and the same amount of fresh air as a festival with perfect climatic conditions: During its epic 10 minutes of play time, their highly melodic track “Elves of Karoo” grows just as big and exciting as a full weekend on a dancefloor bathed in a generous amount of direct sunlight. Furthermore, Seth Schwarz adds the solo track “Quando Rando” that is slower but just as compelling and that reflects the classical composition skills of this producer in an intriguingly subliminal way. The amount of great producers who contribute remixes for this EP lives up to the idea of a perfect festival, as well – a festival for lovers of catchy yet sophisticated dance music, that is.

Seth Schwarz und Be Svendsen haben gemeinsam etwas geschaffen, dessen UV-Index und Frischluftgehalt einem Festival mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen entspricht: Ihr hochgradig melodiöser Track “Elves of Karoo” ist in seinen epischen 10 Minuten Spielzeit mindestens genauso groß und ereignisreich wie ein Wochenende auf einer Tanzfläche unter freiem Himmel. Im Alleingang legt Seth Schwarz außerdem den etwas langsameren, aber genauso zugkräftigen Titel “Quando Rando” nach, in dem er seine klassischen Kompositionskünste mit zurückhaltender Eleganz einsetzt. Die Menge der hochkarätigen Künstler, welche für die Remixes an Bord geholt wurden, entspricht übrigens ebenfalls dem Bild eines Festivals mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen für Freunde eingängiger und doch anspruchsvoller Tanzmusik.
