For FrenzyPodcast #087 we’ve invited the UK DJ/producer, and Khazad Records labelhead Balrog. Balrog has supplanted himself in the darker and grittier side of techno with a focus on heavy unrelenting drums and a driving bass. His tracks look back to the classic hard and grooving techno of the early 2000's, but with a fresh modern-day twist.

Creating an old-school mix was a chance for Balrog to dig into his record collection and select some of his grooviest and funkiest tracks from the early 2000s. He told us the following: “Records from this era are what I specifically like to collect as it was a period that inspires me as it was a time when techno had a hell of a lot more groove than it often does now. Vinyl mixes such as this give me a chance to play a wide-ranging variety of old great tracks with a more relaxed and fun feeling.”

Inside the mix you can find tracks from artists such as UMEK, Chris Liebing, DJ Rush, Max Walder and Deetron, among others. Listen to the sound of Balrog for the next one and a half hour, enjoy!

Our 101st podcast will be provided by the German DJ Pernox. Since a couple of years, Pernox is resident of Geheimclub Magdenburg. Since becoming a regular Pernox takes care of the bookings and podcast series of the club as well. Generally, he likes to implement a diverse range of tracks in his sets driven by his mood. Old School tools, groovy tracks, electro, ghetto house and footwork, all come across when plays. 

For Frenzy Pernox delivered a 3h mix, which is a live recording of his closing set at Geheimclub Magdeburg. When asked what he wanted to create during his 3h set, he told us: “I decided to open the set with some ambient stuff and to go not to hard (but fast-paced) from the beginning and create more and more tension. So I ended up playing more recent and driving productions during this part of the set. For me the first little break is at about 40 minutes, when I took out some of the energy. After that I went on playing more diverse and storytelling, and subsequently you can hear more and more old school tunes, the atmosphere is switching quite frequently and you can find some non-techno tracks.” Listen to the sound of Pernox here, enjoy!

Back with a proper live recording from the infamous E-Werk Party back on the 25/26th of March 2022.
We probably had the best vibe of the whole party up on the rooftop with the rising sun as i was playing from 7- to almost 11h in the morning.
What a ride - 3Decks/2Digis - All Vinyl except - 6 tracks - unreleased by friends - not on wax - not in my collection yet - 
Turned out crunchy again because of the levels... but hey this is what we like huh:D

Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: BitterCaress

For several years now, BitterCaress has been pursuing her own musical path. Coming from a classical music background and after studying the piano at the conservatory for several years in Paris, she discovered techno in Montreal when she moved there in 2014.

Professional raver and techno events organizer for a while, she had the chance to broaden her musical culture before going behind the decks at the end of 2018.

Her sharp selection reveals a marked taste for heavy bass and uncompromising beats. Her style is best described as ravy and highly energetic as she draws her inspiration from old school techno, mixing ravy and trancy atmospheres with raw and industrial energies. The artist gets highly creative behind the decks with her openness to other genres and her appetite for risks when comes the time to play unexpected guilty pleasures. BitterCaress definitely knows how to make people dance and will slay any dancefloors.

Her journey has just started but she is already well-established in the Montreal local scene with several gigs under her belt notably at Stereo Nightclub or at Piknic Electronik and her residency at one of the scene’s most hyped collective, OCTOV. Playing alongside Jacidorex or Nur Jaber, among talented others, has definitely put her on the techno map. At the end of 2021, she has also begun to make some waves internationally with several podcasts for many renowned SoundCloud channels such as Possession, The Brvtalist or Instruments of Discipline.

BitterCaress also curates the Mixing for a Cause podcast series where she gives the floor to some local and international artists to raise awareness about causes that are meaningful to them.

In the same spirit, since the end of 2020, she is now managing her brand-new solo project called MFC Records. A label established as a way to support newcomers, fresh talents and already established artists from all over the world who would like to support a cause. All proceeds from the releases are going to carefully chosen non-for-profit organizations.

Through this series and that label, she hopes to build awareness and a better future world.
