This work is based on the confrontation between Shimazu forces and Ii forces at the Battle of Sekigahara (Shimazu no Nokiguti).

The first new track from Hexfarm - who  have managed to jam once a year in 2022 then 2023 for the first time in many many many years. 2 of us now live in Australia with our Japanese residing Drummer flying in once a year for some fun. This was recorded remotely and hot mixed in my home studio - rough garage sounds : ) Lots of improv stuff on tape to see the light of day too in the vault

There's Lizards on the walls in my hotel, it's hot as hell and it don't smell like my home town.
There's strangers in the halls, and the Punjab calls
while children laugh out loud without regard or regret

Ensconced in cotton course and white
the Charpoys wait for another night
and the jet is on the runway, waiting for the northern flight
and Kashmir waits with open arms and mountains bright.

There's Lizards on the walls of my hotel
There's loaded Tonga's on the teeming street that's lined with open stalls of spice and fruit and brass and salt and hanging meat.

There's Lizards on the walls   
Marigolds strung on strings wrapped around all kind of things.
Beggers on the street with broken arms and legs and feet, still smiling as they reach through diesel fumes and swarms of flies and eyes that stare longingly for some relief.

The wheel of time lt turns, life ls gone so fast
trying to give lt a little nudge, 
that goddam thing will barely budge
regardless of the judgement of the swarm
and as cold as lt would seem to be
according to advisors ln the grandly complex cranium
they will tell you what's been done, ln the interim

The fruit that grows upon that tree
weather tasteless sweet or bitter
belongs exclusively to those who planted seedling ln the garden
of the passion of the moment

every single one tossed into the River
with admonitions of the dangers of the current-
while swimmers weak and strong
find the deep together
ln spite of all the waterfall

Anthology Act 1

Hey…. I am sitting inside now, it is snowing, and quite cold for October. I noticed deer tracks in the snow and what looks like a gathering around the crab apple trees, as the deer munched down on apples. Later, I picked a bunch of apples from the higher branches and cleared off the foot of snow on the ground then piled up some apples for all who wants them. About 3 weeks ago, I went outside late at night to close up the garage. I had a strange feeling that there might be a bear in the yard. No sounds or sighting, just an intense hunch. The next day I went out to do some gardening and on the way back to the garden I spotted a huge pile of bear scat behind the spruce trees. It was full of half digested apples, a telltale sign of late season bear scat. That was a first. For me anyway. And maybe for the bear too. It reminded me of when I was a boy and a large group of us were camping in the wilderness. The dads told us to be careful about leaving food out. There was a heavy ‘bear box’ at the campsite where we stored the food. So what did us kids do? We threw a bunch of leftovers into the woods. Shortly thereafter we were visited by 3 bears. One dad, a huge man nicknamed Spike, confronted and chased the bears off. He was bigger than the bears and had a way worse growl. Then us kids got a good chewing out, and found ourselves on supervised cleanup duty, like a chain gang, getting all the food out of the woods. We deserved it, but were happy to see those bears. Anyway, I noticed the bear had eaten almost all the apples from under the trees. The bear was probably super happy to find all those apples. I was glad to help the bear get ready for winter and hibernation. The process of bears eating as much as they can before hibernation is called hyperphagia. I wish I could sleep all winter too, and wake up in the Spring. Anyway, this is a slide guitar Blues. I sing with a vocal personality that fits the song. Lyrics were about an experience of mine around 47 years ago, and from a different perspective of the same experience in an old song of mine called Blackbirds, where I sat under the same willow tree as thousands of migrating blackbirds passed by, at times landing in the willow, then swooping down in thirsty murmurations, to get a drink from the creek. I’d just sit there with blackbirds all around me. And of course both songs are about this particular woman I took a fancy to way back when. That never panned out like I thought it might. So it goes in this life for me. Hope you like the song, and thanks for dropping by, Mark
