The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Katran. "BL-1" comes off the Decapitation EP on Blame Records.

Darko Kolar is an artist with multiple registers and a great commitment to the transgressive music scene. From Serbia, and for years now, he has been pumping out industrial techno all over Europe that was soon embraced by other producers and other platforms. He did this as a member of Ontal together with Boris Brenecki, and later as Katran and from his record project Jezgro. However, it is not fair to associate Darko's figure only with industrial techno, as his musical spectrum is much broader, as he demonstrates with Jezgro, a label open to very diverse and extreme proposals, on which big names such as Merzbow or KK Null have been released.

 The second SPLIT record of the Pi Electronics sub-catalogue kicks off 2022's release schedule, combining music by Ontal, the duo hailing from Serbia and Athens based producer, DΛS.

After 4 years, Ontal return to the label, with ‘Almagest’ Parts I & II on the A side, giving two different interpretations of their trademark industrial textured techno. One with a focus on the bassline and one kick drum oriented version.

The B side of SPLIT#2 hosts Athens techno producer and label resident DΛS, presenting his music for the very first time on vinyl. Driving, broken beat techno with an industrial edge.

Balkan Connection celebrates their 800th release with a special collaborative project from label mainstays Nicholas Van Orton and Ewan Rill. Hailing from Argentina, Ariel Gandolfo aka Nicholas Van Orton has been a figure of the global progressive scene for the better part of two decades. A creative partnership with Balkan Connection was forged early on with an appearance on the label’s first ever ‘Balkanians’ collection, a release which landed in March of 2008. The eventual formation of Balkan Connection South America, an imprint guided by Van Orton, would only strengthen ties going forward. Fast forward to present day and the Buenos Aires resident has racked up over two hundred discography credits across the two imprints. Meanwhile, Russian artist and Sever Records boss Ewan Rill has been a mainstay of the progressive house underground since first emerging in 2011. Balkan Connection's 'Balkanians Vol. 11' collection served as the vehicle for Ewan’s first ever release, and it’s safe to say he found a comfortable home on Serbian imprint where he has now racked up an impressive 135 discography credits . Now thirteen years later he stands as one of the genre’s most storied artists, with a hefty discography highlighted by projects for  esteemed imprints such as Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. With Balkan Connection celebrating their 800th release it seems only appropriate that the label calls upon two of their most long standing artists in Nicholas and Ewan to collaborate on a special project entitled ‘Subliminal’. 

Beginning with the title selection Nicholas and Ewan combine their extensive forces for a groovy slice of progressive house. Full of mystical qualities, the cross-continental duo smoothly blends punchy kick drums and chunky grooves, with brooding synth motifs and clattering percussive arrangements, resulting in a prophetic path into the main break. Looking to bring a greater sense of tension during the interlude, it’s a trail of percolating effects and icy pads that blankets loops of fuzzed out percussion, before a slow-burning build smoothly segues into a finale that is equal parts ominous and groovy.

Selection two ‘Animal Ritual' finds Ewan operating in solo capacity and maintaining the deep brooding qualities of its predecessor. Mysterious and trippy throughout, its chunky cadence instantly commands your attention, through snatches of flashing percussion, orbiting effects and phasing atmospherics. Metallic synth mutations provide a bridge into the main break, adding further depth and intrigue, before eventually melting down into a wall of pyrotechnic effects and suitably sinister finale. 

Beneath the ominous sounds of ‘Animal Ritual’ lies the energetic qualities of 'Hello My Name Is'. Van Orton mans the controls here, operating in solo capacity and ultimately crafting a track for those peak time dancefloor moments. Driving and hypnotic in equal measure, it’s a foundation of rippling bass tones which sets the pace for deconstructed vocals and devilish effects to fully saturate your senses. Holographic synths flash through a whirlwind of clustered electronics and coral monochromes across the main break, eventually building to an arcane peak which not only rounds out Balkan Connection’s 800th offering on a strong note, but adds yet another club tool to your arsenal.

Here is the second premiere of the week : after their "Glory Of Romance" LP out on Other Voices Records in 2013, new wave band Nouvelle Phénomène from Budapest is about to unleash a new EP on long time fav and unstoppable label Bordello A Parigi. It features a remix of the title track by Vanzetti & Sacco​ and one of B side "Au Fond De Mon Coeur" by Rotterdam's Machinegewehr, the latter being exclusively brought to you by LYO! Solid club beat, great synths and epic melodies, French vocals and laser noises, what's not to like? "Cruel Game" will be out on Bordello A Parigi early October.

Fantasy Techno collective DUST - a trio comprised of audio engineer Michael Sherburn, DIY nightlife entrepreneur John Barclay and multi-disciplinary artist Greem Jellyfish - announce today their debut full length, Agony Planet.  

The nightmarish, alien horror narrative will be released January 22nd on Mike Simonetti’s new 2MR imprint. Immersed in Brooklyn's DIY rave community, all three members held roles in the genesis of notable extinct venues 285 Kent and Trip House, and now Bossa Nova Civic Club. In 2012 Sherburn and Barclay joined forces to found DUST and were joined shortly thereafter by Jellyfish; the following year they released their first 12”, “Onset of Decimation,” on Mannequin. Between 2013 and 2015, they released several more 12”, two on Mannequin, as well as one for Sci-Fi & Fantasy and one for 2MR.

Over these years, with Sherburn at the helm, the framework and themes for Agony Planet began to be conceptualized. Thirteen tracks, spanning in genre from digital hardcore, dungeon techno, and celestial ambience, are all held together by a theme of extravagant extraterrestrial warfare. Club-savvy techno engineering accompanied by frontwoman Greem Jellyfish’s bizarre monologues and warped screams beckon listeners on a journey through the occult mysticism of the nightmarish and torturous deep ocean of an alien hell. Agony Planet is an unrelenting and bold debut from a trio not afraid to explore the dark caverns of the underground.
