Down The Stairs Mix Series

For our next trip Down The Stairs, we head down south to Birmingham and are supremely delighted to welcome Jayson Wynters (@jwynters) into the DTS fold.

Kicking off his musical endeavours as a garage MC around Birmingham in the late 90's, Jayson's tastes evolved over the years and he found support in the form of the legendary Mr G, who took on Jayson as part of the Phoenix G family with his 2016 EP, 'Unfamiliar Territories.' It was this, and 2 further releases on Don't Be Afraid (@dontbeafraid), that brought Jay to our attention here at 2Sox HQ. From then on, we have thoroughly enjoyed all his output; from other tracks to a plethora of flawless mixes.

We were chuffed when Jayson accepted the offer of heading DTS and even more chuffed when he delivered this quite perfect hour of deepness.

Down The Stairs Mix Series 035 - Jayson Wynters

We might have just missed that glorious sunshine that adorned the Scottish skies over the past couple of weeks, but we are hopeful it'll return and we are doing our best to help by getting one of Malta's finest, Resume Inc (@resume-inc) to venture Down The Stairs with an expertly curated and blissful 80 minutes.

We came across a mix of Resume Inc's a little while ago and didn't hesitate to extend an invite DTS. Sometimes you can tell when a vibe fits and this mix does not disappoint on that front.

Based in Mosta, Malta, Resume Inc has a penchant for ethereal and melancholic music in both DJ mixes and his own productions, starting with a self released effort on Bandcamp in 2018. Lately, he has been working with his neighbourhood geek pals, Jupiter Jax (@jupiterjaxmusic) and Malasso (@salvatore-munzone) on a brand new label called Mood Systems. One to keep your eyes open for!

Down The Stairs Mix Series 036 - Resume Inc

Bosh! And, we are back once again with another trip Down The Stairs. This time, delighted to bring you just under an hour of club ready screamers from Rotterdam born, Berlin based, Nathalie Capello (@nathaliecapello).

The names Capello (OK, it’s ‘Cappello’ in the Glasgow case…) and Subculture, quite obviously, go absolutely hand in hand for the Glaswegian 2Sox crew. But it was an, online, September 2020 edition of the famous Glasgow club night that put us onto Nathalie.

A dig back through some old mixes and a whizz over her ‘Diggin U’ EP on Underground Quality, and we were sold that an invite to Nathalie should be a priority at 2Sox HQ.

With the re-opening of club’s (surely to f*ck) now back on the horizon on these shores, Nathalie’s delivery of a dance floor focused selection couldn’t have come at a better time.

The past couple of years have provided an ideal breeding ground for periods of reflection. Of rediscovery. And for the reignition of dwindling flames. Perhaps this is why the meeting of Tom Churchill and 2Sox is the perfect match at the perfect time. A collision of minds stoking a fire that has sizzled away into a 12” slab of choice cuts. Introspective and deep, yet not forgetting what a dancefloor wants.

Tom started making music in the mid-90s, inspired by the house and techno records he was buying as a teenager growing up in Cardiff. Co-founder of cult 90’s label, Headspace Recordings and sister label Emoticon; Tom and partner Raeph Powell were responsible for some faultless releases in the 00’s. More recently, Tom has been one half of The Nuclear Family; a production, label and events project launched with Laurence Hughes in 2013. Much of what Tom has put his hand to over the years has been hot in demand. Incredibly, this is his first physical, solo release under his real name since 2002. Despite the 20 year gap, Tom’s enthuse for all things deep and electronic has arguably never been stronger.

“These tracks have been heavily inspired by two things - reconnecting with my surroundings and rediscovering my record collection - both of which have been made possible by the events over the past couple of years.” Tom says.

“As well as spending more time outdoors around my home on the west coast of Scotland, I recorded a lot of DJ mixes and radio shows during the first lockdown, which meant I spent a lot of time digging through older records. This reignited some creative energy that had been lying dormant for a while.

Before 2020 I’d been sporadically using a rented studio space to make music, but in that Spring I put together a basic, compact setup so I could work at home. My influences are pretty clear with these tracks - I’ve drawn on the palette of classic deep house, 90s techno and electro throughout - but while there are some retro elements and familiar sounds, I’ve tried to put my own twist on things. Being surrounded by nature and working exclusively on headphones has made for a more intimate sound, and these tracks are the most personal I’ve ever done.”

Essex born, Ross Mackay moved up to Inverness in 2015 and soon started visiting Aberdeen to indulge in its vibrant party scene. Once he had his share of incredible nights he then started playing with the idea of throwing parties in Inverness.

Fast forward a few years, Ross now co-runs Household, and been a resident from the start he’s now looking to start moving forward with djpam. We're excited to see and hear what's coming up!

This mix is full of breaks, some garage numbers and some wobbly dub. Top notch.

It's a big welcome back Down The Stairs to our good ol' Glasgow pal and electronic music selector, stalwart... institution ffs! Jamie brings us a tasty platter of melodic house, techno and electro that will surely satisfy even the hungriest of heads.

Jamie is a part of the original crew from Max's Bar & La Cheetah in Glasgow, and is still going strong. There's a good chance you'll catch him DJing there on any given weekend. He's also a regular presenter on radio stations Radio Buena Vida and Clyde Built, and has a vast archive of shows from his time doing the Saturday Manatee show on Radio Magnetic.

Our history with JT goes back to the early 2000s, and he was in fact the first promoter to put on the 'legendary' Dirty Hospital (John @debukas and our bro Steven's electro thing) the  at the infamous Club 69.

2Sox welcome Shades of Sound Recordings boss Joe Morris to the Sox ranks!

The ‘Dream Culture’ EP was composed over various lockdowns resulting in four cuts rich in energy and dreaming of a return to the dance.

Hypnotic top line melodies, lucid vocals, chest thumping basslines and euphoric pianos are the order of the day; Joe invites you to let your mind free and take a hedonistic trip with these four dance floor ready, expertly crafted tracks.

Curating a distinct dreamy balearic house style over the years, the ‘Dream Culture EP’ evokes this mantra but with some added dance-floor intent that was always going to fit the Sox mold. And so it proves.

A digital release only due to an almighty struggle at vinyl pressing plants recently and rising costs - it's only right this number gets a full on 2SOX00... catalogue number!

Pre-order and one track available now on our Bandcamp page, with full release on Tuesday 22nd November. It'll also be available on the main download and streaming sites, via Rubadub's digital distro arm.

Just over a year ago, we couldn’t find the boiler in Aldo’s new flat. Whilst searching, we found and opened a hatch under a loose piece of carpet in the box room. We went Down The Stairs. We found a venue. Ok, a small basement, but it’s our venue. The place was a riot but after a year of rather slow progress, it’s hospitable. 

We recently had a 2Sox staff night out, drank some Tennents Lager and spun some vinyl. Debukas manned the decks for a while and we’re bringing you the evidence. No digital set up in sight, he’s delved deep for a mix of old and new. Expect to hear the likes of Titonton Duvante & Fabrice Lig, Analogue Fingerprints, Voltaic, Gnork, The Nuclear Family amongst others. It’s rough round the edges, as we were the following day.

Over the coming months, we’ll be inviting some friends to play Down The Stairs and bringing you the recordings. You might even get to see the party in action online, in a genuine boiler room. However, it was only right that we started the series with a recording of Debukas from the staff party. Do enjoy.

...aaaand we’re back. It’s taken us a little longer than it should have to get this third release together, but OH MY was it worth the wait. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite oddballs to construct the first 2Sox compilation release, aptly titled “OddSox Vol. 1”.

TELESKOP starts us off on a rampant 7500 light year joyride to neighbouring star system Eta Carinae, with a tune as dazzling and potentially volatile as the place itself. We’ve loved this tune since first listen. No rest for the elbows.

Tom Churchill is one half of The Nuclear Family and former boss man at the much lauded experimental electronic dance labels Headspace and Emoticon. Relax into our interstellar voyage with his melodic groover Sidetracked (Remix) and feel the glide with sumptuous pads and piano.

On remix duties we have another Glasgow boy Sparky has recently been lighting up the globe with his expertly crafted releases for the mighty Numbers and Optimo Trax labels. Taking on TELESKOP’s tune, he twists the groove and injects a dose of fear into the cosmic space ride as we approach the nebula. A pleasure to have his touch on this release.

Following on from the odd pair of sox that was OddSox Vol. 1, we have been busy curating our next journey and we have recruited some fine talent to guide us on this ride. We go across the globe, straddle the stratosphere before going on an interstellar adventure.

Leading the way is Switzerland's M44K. Gaining a proper reputation online for his sublime edits and lo fi cuts (his recent E-Beamz release with DJ Seinfield for example), we have caught M44K on a serious deep exploration with infectious bassline and dreamy pads. We couldn't think of a better way to lift off OddSox Vol. 2 than 'Marsone'.

Parisian, Larry Houl, follows up with 'Algerian Flag on the Moon. Another elbow moving bassline that you'll be humming nonstop and some sumptuous, glorious pads . Working closely with Flabaire in Secret Value Orchestra, Larry shows he is absolutely one to look out for on the solo tip also!

Flipping over on to the B, let your mind and soul wander with ‘Mesta'. With a delightful release on Blind Jacks Journey recently and his own label dropping serious heat from Harrison BDP soon, Aleksandir delivers a devine blend of dream house and rough, rugged, rumbling bass.

Bringing us back down to earth is a man from Portland, who is on some serious form. Coming to our attention with last year’s release on 100% Silk, Akasha System’s deep and dark ‘Astral Jam’ ends the cosmic trip with a bang.

OddSox Vol. 2 - M44K, Larry Houl, Aleksandir & Akasha System(2SOX004)

Time to get this show back on the road, the M80 to be exact. The motorway that connects the famous small city of Stirling to the bright lights of Glasgow.

Now Glasgow based, our good neighbours and pals, Jelly Roll Soul (@jellyrollsoul-1) have been bringing some top drawer names to the city's La Cheetah club since 2010, such as Kyle Hall, Scott Grooves, Jay Daniel, Funkineven and more. All whilst keeping the Stirling punters in the loop on occasion too, with Marcellus Pittman popping up there.

In 2015, the JRS chaps, fronted up by Jamie Alexander and Robert Tomlinson, dropped their first piece of wax and have followed this up with another record from Jamie himself, with a serious nailer on the way from Brandon Vare (https://soundcloud.com/jellyrollsoul-1/brandon-vare-moonlightingyattering-clips). This is due to drop soon in your usual outlets! 

With their club night, hosting a regular radio show on Radio Magnetic, some occasional appearances at lively Glasgow pubs and next up a trip to Berlin (https://www.residentadvisor.net/events/1033297), these boys don't stop and keep their ear close to the underground for the tastiest house music - as evidenced in this deliciously smooth hour long journey; midnight cruising down that M80 motorway.

Aaaand, we are finally back with a new DTS treat for you! It's high time we got back into this sonic groove and we are super chuffed to kick off 2019 with an electro workout from a long time admired artist of ours, Mihail P (@mihailpetrovski).

After a brief round trip across Europe for our DTS fixes, we return back to our homeland. Not in the name of Brexit, but in the name of allowing a true Clyde Shopping Centre legend and well known face, Fear-E (@fear-e), to soundtrack our next visit DTS.

Having cut his teeth for many years, DJing and partying around Glasgow, Fear-E's production talents were picked up swiftly by fellow local patter merchants, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams (@dixonavenuebasementjams) and another fresh, dance floor killer, release is due to land very soon. Go check it! 

Please allow Fear-E to soundtrack away any winter blues with this piano laced and big vocal laden hour of joy. Perfectly suited to either pre-party, after party, or an actual party.

Next to take on the task of going Down The Stairs and turning up the heat, is @anthonyabbadessa, aka Tony Rainwater. An absolute mix pumper outer, Tony has a ton of seriously hot mixes on his page, and it was first discovering his ‘Hyperliquid Lightshow’ mix that alerted us to his ability to create a dreamy landscape for the listener.

He’s followed this up recently with a small run of ‘Trancebreaks’ mixes, which really are worth all of your time. 

We are delighted to have Tony going the DTS family with a lovely 90 minutes of dreamy pads, breaks, acid, piano and much more.

We have been enjoying some seriously nice sunshine weather in both our homelands of Glasgow and Inverness recently, and what better time to welcome our next guest to the fold, Junior of Glasgow club night and label Sensu.

Junior and Sensu have been residents at Glasgow's famous Sub Club for too many years to mention now, bringing a ton of A1 guests to the city. The success of the club and Junior's fine selection n mixing skills has also seen him appear on bills all over the place.

More recently, Sensu Recordings relaunched bringing you some sublime cuts from Rudolf C, Hamatsuki and Lootbeg. All this before, 2Sox and Sensu joined forces to launch a digital only label series called What Matters to You. (@user-985001664 FIRST RELEASE OUT - GO CHECK IT!)

Next to take a virtual trip Down The Stairs (ok, apart from a few early ones, it's been virtual pretty much the whole time, we'll be honest...) is one half of Australian based duo @Interstellarfugitives, by the name of Georgia Bird (@georgia-bird-3). 

When we discovered a live club mix of Georgia's (https://soundcloud.com/jamiethescorpio/georgia-bird-at-glamorama-for-kinky-audio-11-1am), we basically stumbled upon the art of a warm set being carried out to perfection. It blew us away, and we didn't hesitate to give her a shout with a request to join the DTS ranks. Thankfully, the answer was yes and Georgia has delivered a building hour of rhythmic and heady grooves across to the other side of the world.

For our next trip Down The Stairs, we are more than chuffed to welcome Leipzig based producer, and long time online chatter pal, Lootbeg (@philyp-lootbeg).

A string of excellent releases to his name, including with our Glasgow pals, Sensu (@sensu_glasgow)and the indescribably brilliant 'Crow Castle Cuts' imprint from previous DTS-er Luv*Jam (@luvjam), Lootbeg hits the DTS brief perfectly with a strong blend of dreamy, deep and driving sounds.

A shout out must go to the great work Lootbeg does with his label also, @afriendinneed - which just has a new release out from fellow pal, 5HTTP! A solid tip if ever there was one.

Down The Stairs Mix Series 024 - Lootbeg

For the hottest day of our Scottish year, we bring you some hot hot selections from the west coast of Scotland. A long time coming this one; the man that is Tom Churchill going solo DTS! @tomchurchill

Where to start with TC is a tricky one. Part brains behind seminal labels Headspace and Emoticon in the 90s through to 00s; creating vibes throughout clubs in Cardiff, Glasgow and well beyond ; rejuvenating his production career as one half of @the_nuclear_family in the 2010s... the list could go on.

On a serious mix roll at the moment, we couldn't believe TC hadn't curated a DTS yet. On the plus side, it's been worth the wait. Putting away the insanely impressive golden era techno 12" collection for an hour, Tom has focused on more current sounds (including some solid Scottish representation). The likes of Lord of the Isles (@lordoftheisles), Other Lands (@vinlanders), Kyle Hall (@kmfh), Hidden Spheres (@hiddenspheres), Tornado Wallace (@tornadowallace), Reedale Rise (@reedalerise) and Carl Finlow (@carlfinlow) all feature in here.

It's unlikely we are going to dive into the world of 'premieres' full time, but we thought 'why not' when it comes to presenting some exquisite new music going out on our sub, digi only, label with good pals Sensu.

It's always great to find a Soundcloud account that continually shares and re-posts top notch content time after time. And that's exactly what you'll find if you head over @jeanbart59, the page of Davebryckaert / Deep Corsairse.

We first noticed that Dave was a fan of the auld 2Sox stuff, so gave him a wee follow and his shares have put us on to some lovely stuff over the years. A constant stream of delightful sounds being shared as Dave clearly has his ears on the pulse, and we noticed that he's dropped a couple of his own mixes into mix too.

Deep, dreamy and soulful; but dance floor friendly - Dave knows how to select records!

The man himself gave us some words when submitting the mix that we ought to share: "Electronic music is part of my life, can't do without, this is a story of love, I consider music as a universal language, a language that everyone can understand, because it speaks directly to your heart, your soul, it goes far beyond culture, religion, people position in society, it makes everyone connected. This mix is for me what is electronic music, this is a deep introspection into my soul."

He also tells us that he's got an album in the works for later this year or next. Magic.

Down The Stairs Mix Series 026 - Davebryckaert

Next up to go DTS, we are delighted to welcome a young and up and coming selector, by the name of Renata (@renatamaris). 

Renata is a London-based DJ, mostly known for her eclectic sets playing across a spectrum of genres from house, jazz to afro, psych and electronica. 

A regular at various venues including Spiritland and BBE Store along with music festivals like Houghton, Gottwood and Love International.

We came across a couple of mixes online and were confident that she could curate a nice little selection of music to suit our vibes!

For her invitation to head DTS, Renata has kept the selection on a housier tip and doesn't mess about with the quality of tunes selected; letting the tracks do the talking as they should do!

Only the second ever return visit Down The Stairs, and we are chuffed to welcome back one of the biggest ever mix-pumper-outters, Tony Rainwater (@anthonyabbadessa).

Given the amount of mixes, in particular his Trancebreaks series, he gets out there, it's a fair achievement to have the quality control that Tony does on his mixes!

Not only now the owner of a plethora of delightful mixes, Tony has expanded into the world of production more recently and is also the head of, charity proceed driven label, @fallingstarerotica - go check it!

Down The Stairs Mix Series 028 - Tony Rainwater

If you know, you know...

This is a visit Down The Stairs that we have been itching to nail down for a fair bit of time and are now delighted to bring it to you. If you're a fan of deeper sounds and have been on Soundcloud over the last number of years, fair chance you've come across the man like @estimulo ,  who also runs his @estimuloshow page.

A true modern day hero of all things deep house and techno mixes, this man knows how to select a 12”! As well as his insanely good and consistent online output, gigs have been racked up across some of Berlin's finest in Arkaoda, Tresor, OHM and Paloma Bar; as well as further around Europe.

It's rare to check Estimulo's page and not find a new mix every week, maybe even a couple in the space of a week. We are mega chuffed that (all being well and that he'll share it) our own DTS mix will appear alongside some crackers already out there.

Down The Stairs Mix Series 029 - Estimulo

Chuffed to welcome the next guest to venture Down The (not very) famous Stairs - Balamii Radio  @balamii) monthly resident, Patrisha!(@saoirsepatrisha)

Patrisha first came to our attention via her consistently enjoyable shows on Balamii, both her own mixes and quality of guests - blissfully blending a mix of acid, breaks, house, techno, trance, garage; and anything and everything in between each month.

Patrisha has worked behind the scenes at Boiler Room, Worldwide FM and The Pickle Factory and, despite expertly crafted mixes and shows, has only been DJing since 2018. She is also a resident with the Fade to Zaire (https://soundcloud.com/fade-to-zaire) crew.

You could choose worse ways to spend yer time than checking out Patrisha's back catalogue of Balamii shows - so get on it. But first, enjoy this cracker of a DTS instalment.

Wishing ya'll a seriously Happy New Year, with all the luck and good fortune coming your way! Needless to say, let's hope we can get back to the way things were in 2019, sooner rather than later. Or actually, let's say 2015-2018 for 2Sox, as we were actually releasing some music :))

Anywaaaay – WE ARE BACK with a new Down The Stairs mix to kick off 2021. Super delighted to welcome the Russian maestro of all things house, electro, breaks, jungle and more - @marco_lazovic. Marco treats us to a blissful first half hour, with a ramp up for the last 20 minutes – all underwritten with a classic breaky- and electro-y tone.

High on our list of producers to look out for since his Life Without Love EP on Jungle Gym, Marco has clocked in some impressive releases over the years on labels such as @lobster-theremin, @gaspatletics and @craftmusique

This mix represents his latest production style nicely and you can find tracks from the likes of @esb-trax , @paragraph , @lostlojic , @arthur-eh , @cam3oblush , @fiestasoundsystem , @pessimist and more, including the main man himself!

Down The Stairs Mix Series 031 - Marco Lazovic

For our next trip Down The Stairs, we return much closer to home (well, it is home for 1/2 of 2Sox) and are ridiculously delighted to bring you 1/2 of Inverness club night, mix series, digital label, online premiere maestros AND previous DTS guests - Hypnotic Groove! ( @hypno_groove )

Andrea ( @andrea-gilbert-mac )has been at the forefront of pushing a wide spectrum of electronic music from her Highland base for a number of years. Whether it's the fabled, sweaty, Inverness club nights, guest mixes on Rinse FM or pushing brand new music via premieres, Andrea's finger is always on the pulse.

So, it goes without saying, inviting her to go DTS has been on our radar for a fair while (aka too long).

For this trip, Andrea puts the pounding techno largely to one side and focuses on a more 2020/21 appropriate sound, with a delightful journey guaranteed to make you drift, relax and think of good times gone and ahead. With a fair nod to those aforementioned sweaty club nights towards the end of the mix. A much needed and enjoyable shift in direction for the DTS series in general too.

Down The Stairs Mix Series 032 - Andrea HG

As well as inviting good friends and artists/DJs we have admired for some time, we enjoy nothing more than stumbling across a mix from someone not known to us before. The latter is the route that this DTS invitation took and we could not be more delighted to provide a 75 minute soundtrack for whatever it is you are doing, from the talented @enelramm of Leipzig!

1/2 of @dyscotheque and part of the @nice4what collective from Leipzig, we first encountered enelRAM's ability to plot together an engrossing mix via the East German based record label, @uncanny-valley-dresden and their podcast series.

A whistle stop tour round more mixes led to the offer of going Down The Stairs. An offer which was accepted and we have to say, this is right up there with our favourite instalments yet!

Memories and visions of having a cold beer on a sunny terrace come to mind as enelRAM glides through tracks from the likes of @wildsarah & @georgstuby , @johannesalbert , @bohm , @tilman & @rhodeandbrown , @cinthie , @riohv and more.

A common name found in and around the clubs of Leipzig, enelRAM has made sure the city has gotten even higher on our list of places to visit post COVID!
