Panthalassa, the seventh release on Cognitive Music and Mariner’s debut on the label, is a deep, energetic house track built for the dancefloor. The original mix is an amazing progressive journey that starts with a driving beat highlighted by a flourish of bouncey chord stabs. With support from a moving bass line, the track builds with great care until it’s first break, which introduces the main lead synth. The song continues to build energy with a late night vibe, introducing the song’s distinct “breathe in, breathe out” spoken vocal. Finally, after bringing the track down a second time, Mariner changes things up and moves the drum pattern into breakbeat territory for the duration, giving the song a very funky, beat driven ending. 

This release includes 3 remixes, the first of which comes from Avlish, and it’s a huge progressive/tech house remix. His version starts out with woven textures and beautiful melodic content, building energy to the first break when the signature vocal comes in. The big driving bassline provides a deep foundation to the track, moving it towards the big breakdown, which introduces a haunting take on the synth melody, leading to a deep breakbeat that takes this mix to another level. Uplifting and beautiful, this mix is not one to miss. 

DJ D-Xtreme brings his signature style to this track, dropping a monster progressive breaks version sure to appeal to fans of all styles of breakbeat. The mix starts with a very funky beat and gated textures, building the energy with the slow entrance of the vocal samples, while building pads and a beautiful chord progression towards the big break. Deep and funky, his mix is very emotional while having strong dancefloor sensibility. 

Devine Noise takes the material and delivers an old school electro feeling remix, complete with classic feeling arps and pads. Building upon the content, a piano comes in and adds a bit of deep emotion leading up to the first break. An array of textures greets us at the break, leading to a funky break section with old school synths, building to the big break, filled with deep melodic piano and synth lines. The energy level gets pushed up and up as the build finally gets back to the beat with a very funky break and amazing payoff. Fans of bass and old school breaks are sure to be pleased with this mix.

The first plane dived. It dropped like a stone, swelling into a great black shape. Cole gasped, sinking down. The plane roared in an arc, swooping low over the ground. Suddenly bundles tumbled out, white bundles falling and scattering like seeds. The bundles drifted rapidly to the ground. They landed. They were men. Men in uniform. Now the second plane was diving. It roared overhead, releasing its load. More bundles tumbled out, filling the sky. The third plane dived, then the fourth. The air was thick with drifting bundles of white, a blanket of descending weed spores, settling to earth. On the ground the soldiers were forming into groups. Their shouts carried to Cole, crouched in his shelter. Fear leaped through him. They were landing on all sides of him. He was cut off. The last two planes had dropped men behind him. He got to his feet, pushing out of the shelter. Some of the soldiers had found the fire, the ashes and coals. One dropped down, feeling the coals with his hand. He waved to the others. They were circling all around, shouting and gesturing. One of them began to set up some kind of gun. Others were unrolling coils of tubing, locking a collection of strange pipes and machinery in place. Cole ran. He rolled down a slope, sliding and falling. At the bottom he leaped to his feet and  plunged into the brush. Vines and leaves tore at his face, slashing and cutting him. He fell again, tangled in a mass of twisted shrubbery. He fought desperately, trying to free himself. If he could reach the knife in his pocket.

DJ D-Xtreme and Devine Noise are back with another collaborative release on Cognitive Music. When The Morning Cums, the 13th release for the label, is a driving, funky progressive breakbeat track that highlights both artists unique styles. The release features both the Original Mix and a new remix from Bass Ballers. 

The Original Mix starts with chopped up vocal samples over a thick breakbeat. A sub-driven bassline complements the beat perfectly as we are introduced to the full vocal heading toward the first break, which brings with it some edgy, sliding electro elements. As we progress, the mood changes as a funky, old school piano riff lifts the track as the vocal weave their way in and out. The piano transforms into a synth stab as the full vocal takes over the track, building to another huge electro drop before winding down. 

The Bass Ballers Remix takes the original theme and turns it on it’s head, transforming the track into a progressive quad breakbeat track. The drums have a bass vibe to them with the 808 snare and pitched kick driving the song, chopped vocals layered over help give the song its progressive feel. The break brings the full vocal in along with a beautiful synth line that quickly gives way to an edgier synth as the track drops with an amazing amount of energy. Expertly transitioning from sharper to gentler tones, the remix is constantly progressing while maintaining a funky, bass driven feel.
