HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.

@kiialondon formerly @kiiabristol is, you guessed it, a bristolian gem now in london. we met in early 2019 when i was still recovering from my leg break - i played at cue, the super duper cute party she co-runs. i remember this was my first trip alone with no help to push my wheelchair etc and alice was soooooo sweet and caring, armed with a friend's wheelchair and a special chair for me to play on, and we drove from ldn to bristol chatting and laughing and i felt right at home. her opening set that night was really beautiful, personal, and with an edgy elegance to it that stuck with me. thankfully the worlks has brought us together a couple more times in parties, and it's always a joy to share a moment with this bb! this naivetape hits hard with polyrhythmic wonders and cheeky synths, tuff yet dreamy melodies and a whole lot of energy and ideas. k.i.i.a. is what the world needs!
