UK chart-topper @shift-key is back on Night Bass bringing us his “To the Floor” EP. With its melodically dark intro, first up is “To the Floor”, a heavy-hitter that resonates with Shift K3Y’s trademark vocal work and drops into a seriously heavy bassline that’s sure to bring you down to the floor. His collab with @taiki-nulight-uk , “SC4RY” completes the 2-tracker with an ominous lead-in, dropping into Taiki Nulight’s signature dark, bass-heavy sound - the track stays true to its name.

In the Netherlands some neophile named I-f was fed up with the same old techno 'movement'. This in mind he added some fairly unorthodox dimensions to this gathering, forever changing its course. With primitive electronic equipment I-f transferred sounds from the 80s to the here and now. And by chance, he landed a hit. "Space Invaders are Smoking Grass" is I-f´s entry to Electro-anthem status. Like Funk never happened. 

This is family fodder for dance crazes, for lovers of 'alternative' music, for the whole scattered techno community, as well as for the homelistener who likes to smoke a cigar when hearing 'strange' sounds on the sofa. I-f´s versatile approach to music can't be measured with just this one track. His first full length album on Disko B records proves the point. Fucking Consumer is pretty strong stuff. Electro-nix pure and clear. No nice recycled retro package. It's out of it, sails in its own universe, because it doesn't rely on others.

The overall mood is well-tempered, it seems to be playing along some sound history. Next thing you know, Fucking Consumer is exploding into bursts of noise - what a pleasure. Track by track I-f demands the attention of the listener anew. The final countdown occurs in a little gothic interlude with G.D. from L.A.'s Christian Death delivering the vocals. This Record was the start of a series of records by I-f (I-F – The Man From P.A.C.K, 1999, The Parallax Corporation – Cocadisco in 2003). There were massive records following this pioneer advance and a first clash on electro was done long before Larry T was dreaming of creating electro-clash.

I couldn’t stress enough the startling vocal and melodic talents that make this the clean-cut cool band you’d want to be dancing to by the time you met with their groove.

This set of musicians admire those natural performers who sophisticatedly crooned their way through the most successful times the standard jazz and popular music era would go through. Allow them to convey this to you: Sharing is what real music’s all about!
