Kiwi duo 2XM make a welcome return to Eton Messy Records this August with their ‘Inperspect’ EP.

2XM is callobrative guise of the respectively New Zealand and Australia based Liam and Ben Murray. The pair have been creating unique blends of dance music since late 2016, exploring a multitude of sonics, stemming from their wide variety of training and interest in jazz, classical, hip-hop and electronic music. Recent times have seen the pair unveil a string of material via the likes of Eton Messy, Sengiley Records and GLBDOM, adding to their already extensive list of releases with Slothboogie, Café del Mar, Dansu Discs, Bolting Bits, Of Leisure and many more.

The pair have been creating unique blends of dance music since late 2016, exploring a multitude of sonics, stemming from their wide variety of training and interest in jazz, classical, hip-hop and electronic music. Recent times have seen the pair unveil a string of material via the likes of Eton Messy, Sengiley Records and GLBDOM, adding to their already extensive list of releases with Slothboogie, Café del Mar, Dansu Discs, Bolting Bits, Of Leisure and many more.

Here the pair return with a fresh three-tracker, led by title-track ‘Inperspect’ which fuses hazy atmospherics and bumpy off kilter drums with snaking subs, airy vocals and cinematic strings.

‘Sometimes’ follows and embraces skippy garage leaning drums amidst elongated bass drones, ethereal vocal swells and shimmering pads before ‘Allway’ rounds things out on a more deep house tip, shifting the rhythmic aspect to organic 4/4 percussion alongside choppy bass stabs, fluttering keys and a vocal uttering the track’s title.

Desolate roads stretch across a silent expanse, guided only by flickering lights that no longer lead anywhere. Echoes linger in the underground passageways, floating between empty streets and veined alleys. Each moment feels like an unsent message, a hymn etched into the pavement, fading into static and dust. Along the way, color drains from the sky until nothing remains but a tranquil horizon where all signs disappear, and absence becomes the only language still spoken.

Chris Reed, also known as Plastician (formerly Plasticman), is a Producer / DJ from Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon.

Plastician is unique in that he is respected as one of the true pioneers of both the Dubstep, Grime and most recently Wave genres. 

Always reputed for selecting from a broad range of bass heavy styles and seeking out the genres that emerge from between established scenes.

He plays a monthly radio show on Rinse FM, where he has been credited for breaking many artists and collectives on his show, some artists who had their first plays on his shows include Joker, Om Unit, Klasey Jones, Mura Masa and countless more.

In 2006 he spent 18 months on BBC Radio 1, making him the world's first DJ to have a specialist dubstep and grime radio show on national radio.
