Holy Goof - Cast #002

For a long time now we've been watching DJ Q and his never ending contribution to the expansive genre that some call UK bass. Purveying that playful blend of bassline, garage and four four, Q's not only one of the style's longest serving stalwarts but he's also by far one of the best. With second to none productions and even better selection skills, Q has not only been in charge of his own imprint Q Recordings but he's thus far been backed by the likes of Local Action and Unknown to the Unknown, with whom he's released a slew of EPs and two studio albums. What's more, he's put his name behind two additional projects: Trumpet & Badman, alongside UTTU boss DJ Haus, and most recently, the mighty new trio tqd alongside Flava D and Royal T.

 Set to join us here once again in Room Two this Friday, we caught up with Q to find out a little more about the long-time garage devotee at the same time asking if he wouldn't mind giving us a snippet of exactly the kind of blends he'll be donning inside the booth by way of a brand new and exclusive promo mix...

"Massachusetts-based producer Tonio Sagan bursts onto the scene with a sprawling mashup-meets-cinematic opus, “Stuff Dreams Are Made Of." 

Tonio begins the mix by sampling renowned astronomer Carl Sagan. Those words lead us through a soundscape of ethereal cloud beats and Hip Hop-influenced bass music, which is paired with wall-to-wall conceptually driven sampling. 

“Stuff Dreams Are Made Of” is one of the most carefully crafted pieces of its kind, in part because its emotional weight. The track features live bass and drums by Alchemystics founders Garrett Sawyer and Demse Zullo during the section with Nas and Aerosmith samples. The drum recording is from the first and tragically last show Demse performed in a project with DJ Neb and Tonio. Zullo passed away with his good friend Budzy in a tragic automobile accident shortly after. It’s a beautiful tribute not only to Zullo but all the important lives we’ve lost over the years."

We have the pleasure of presenting to you a great exclusive mix from a name that has been synonymous with bass music for some time, Kissy Sell Out.
After 11 years in the music game, Kissy Sell Out continues to be one of the most unique players in the British dance music scene. Having made his name by mixing records for Gwen Stefani, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson, Sugababes, Groove Armada, Human League and Chromeo when he was only 21 years old and still studying his first degree at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, his name exploded across the global festival circuit with his frantic and electrifying DJ style, leading him onto hosting one of the most popular specialist shows in BBC Radio 1 history, the “Kissy Klub”. 

As of 2017, Kissy heads up the new house and bassline garage label Stepper Man. The launch of the label exceeded all expectations early on when the second release received over 3 million plays on Facebook after Kissy uploaded his self-made promo video utilising his pre-music background as a graphic designer. With this label Kissy continues to release music under his own name, as well as using the moniker KSO to write more experimental techno and bassline garage tracks.
